Human Survival Instincts

Delhi Times garnered courage to display Mallika on the front page. I was amazed. Not only because she is in the front page, but the person, who is writing about her, is a very renowned journalist and writer of this country, Pritish Nandy. Because of this serious curiosity to disclose the closed ideas, I read the complete article. The point which surfaced to me was nothing, I could keep with me. That resulted to in the form of this blog.

I am used to read negative headings, negative reporting and demoralizing analysis of one of the most courageous heroin of Indian film industry. This exists in spite of the fact of sheer absence of any beauty and mind in the film industry. The film industry is starved of new faces, new ideas, futuristic projects and plan for developed India.

I have been unable to understand the deep rooted slavery system, in India. Even the free journalism is not able to keep brightest journalist of this country free. The reporters remain engulfed with height of discrimination related to religion, region, languages and background. Mallika always occupy bad report from the entire journalists in the country. The reason lies somewhere in between these human compulsions to remain attached to their traditions.

Last year, I wrote a book on ‘Unlearn Before U-learn’. I have analyzed various changing trends in society due to tremendous technological and social changes. For me, changes are obvious and clear. But, I am unable to find even few of the people who are able to experience, realise and re-learn from these changing scenarios. The people are coupled to act with their old, traditional and conservative thinking. The few salient lines, I would like to reproduce from my book:

“The so-called ‘Generation Valley’ is so deep and wide that parents are becoming the biggest hurdle in today’s growth. Life has become tougher. A son or daughter, who wants to develop their family, has to be a super-manager or super-human to deal with all kinds of challenges. If one wants to bring her family up along with her, she will never be able to achieve anything in life. She perforce will have to become a lame sacrificial lamb or alternatively a rebel.

Mallika Sherawat, the famous Indian actress, rebelled from her family setup to work in movies. Her parents never agreed with her ideas. She broke relations with her parents to pursue her career in movies. When she was attending a press conference at the Cannes Film Festival for the launch of The Myth in which she had a role as an Indian princess along with the famous international superstar Jackie Chan, She roared, ‘My dad comes from a very old-world setup where everything is very traditional. The attitude is still, “girls from good families shouldn’t go into films.” Their thinking will never change. My mother still wears a gunghat (veil). I feel so lost at times.’ She is correct. Anybody will feel lost when she has to change her level all alone. She has to move all alone. She has to take her decisions in life all alone. Parents are worse than enemies in such cases because they cannot accept or understand and appreciate her tremendous efforts. You do not get either inspiration nor can you get detached easily. She immediately confirms, ‘My dad has not spoken to me for the last three years.’ There is no way out. The progress of the offsprings of this generation has to pass through a dark tunnel where there are no parents.

The existing family structure is comfortable as long as there is no change in the status of the next generation. If there is no change in the education or prosperity level in the next generation, they may be compelled to show compatibility because of the financial dependency of children. The moment the changes take place, the problem starts getting bigger. There is a requirement to think of a new family structure or setup. That was a reason why we have heard many unbelievable incidents from Western countries and developed world in the middle of twentieth century when they were developing. Today, Asian countries are moving towards development and passing through the same phases; we must analyze and learn from the experience of the developed world. The developed world has passed through those hassles and difficulties in the last centuries. The solution may lie somewhere in a known knowledge domain if we search, learn and implement. Cases like an increase in old-age homes, children divorcing their parents, the concept of a single family, more single parents in society, ladies demanding their share of power, smaller family sizes, single child syndrom and so on have to increase and we have to adjust to them. It is comfortable if we unlearn the old setup quickly and completely.”

Mallika might have revolted from her parents to work and survive alone, but the hell lot of other people who are supposed to work for the growth of a star, remain biggest obstacles for developing India. There is hardly any system for the homogeneous growth. The system most of the time work dangerously to curb even the intelligent growth of individual.

The country like India is unique in the sense at this juncture of human civilization. The people are at whatever position, comfortable with their own disgruntled, half cooked and rubbish knowledge. Hardly few people generate courage to building empire for the future of this vast country. From film industry, I categorized Mallika as Indian idol, who is surviving the odd to take this country ahead in a right direction.

In India searching talent is the job of consultants. Specialists and capitalists have their own mission. Where do they have time to find talent? Laxmi Mittal is busy in teaching his sons, Ambani has already taught all industry tricks to his sons, Laloo is busy in training Rabri and his sons, Sonia is busy with Priyanka and Rahul, Rakesh Roshan is busy in projecting Hritik, Amitabh is busy with Abhishek, Hema is projecting Isha, Mallay Chaudhary is busy with Arindam Chaudhary and so on. Who thinks about Mallika? Her parents have rejected her. She is supposed to struggle with all the resources of 21st century. Thanks to the advent of new technological scenario, individuals like Mallika can survive and grow. Pritish Nandy will love to write.

After reading the entire article, I could not judge why Pritish Nandy wrote about Mallika in the front page of Delhi Times, dated August 4, 2006. I kept on going through the pages. Lastly I could find photographs of Rahul Bose. There were many photographs of Bose along with a quote. Rahul says, ‘She is very hardworking and willing to listen to what others have to say. She also has a very good sense of humour. She comes across as a very powerful woman who has a mind of her own. She is warm and understanding and I feel she’s going to go a long way!’. Whao… What a great statement especially when you are doing movies with her and you are not as famous as heroin?

But why Pritish agreed to write this article? Did Bose influence him to write about her? Did he get influenced to write on the front page of Delhi Times? If Yes, Can this country learn little more to unlearn to be partial to talents? A talent is a tough thing to be searched, developed, harnessed, groomed and preserved. Can an independent Indian be little more impartial in their approach and work to take talents ahead without discrimination based on religion, region, languages and background? Pritish remembered certified Mallika when she was doing movie with Rahul Bose. What a great coincidence? Why are we playing with talents of country? Posted by Picasa
