If you live an adventurous and successful life, it has to be like this. But as world is becoming better place every other day, our life too are becoming beautiful, interesting and successful. And I am sure this could be true for many of us. If we are able to reminisce past, manage our present and plan our future, life remain complex but sweet, sour and adventurous.

In the history of human kind, humans have never had so much aspirations, satisfactions, frustrations and misery as we have today. As I always try, I shall make it simple. Present situation, I call it an ‘abundance of everything’. I call this era as Abundance Era.

But the main question comes to my mind, what abundance we think, live, dream, encounter and face, what is its impact on our life? Are we able to digest these abundances properly without getting diarrhea? It may not be a challenge always but from my point of view, it could be a choice. I know many of you may not agree with me at this moment but you all will accept my view sooner or later. I shall explain the reason.

Life goes on as usual. Life complexities and privileges both enhances astronomically and most of the times simultaneously. We just need few basics to set right and that too not through hard conditioned learning but unlearning. It is within reach of everyone. We all can achieve growth and success. But over and above, we all should feel honored to live in a world full of choice.

“Unlearning is Devine Dear! It’s like Moksha, when we come out of every bond, wonderful thoughts, Good collection”, writes one of my blogger admirers Ashok Sharma, an author from Lucknow.

I shall be discourteous if I do not quote USA soon in my writings whose armies are dying everyday in Iraq, Afghanistan or even Pakistan. And they are just not doing this to bring missed glory for USA; they are doing these sacrifices to bring peace, tranquility and democracy across the world. How many of you want peace, tranquility and democracy on earth and do not know what to do? I think many of my blog readers fall in that category. They have abundance of information, knowledge and even wisdom but they are lost. They do not know what is right and what is wrong. My suggestion is simple, instead of following your own governments; you just observe and follow American government for their rightness, boldness and futuristic views. Just follow America and Americans. That’s what Swami Vivekananda did and that is what now Narayana Murthy or Indira Nooyi is doing.

Growth is always a complex phenomenon of human history. As an Indians we have seen wars, rulers and governments, but we have yet to see growth. We have seen deprivation, we have heard good words which keep us happy even as deprived people, but where is growth? We need wisdom and right approach to our social, economic and political growth. And that will come at cost of pain of change. We just can not be contented and grow. I can not tell you good words and make you grow. I have to use hard words. We all have to take hard decisions. We have to make hard choices.

War may not be choice many a time but it is necessity for peace and growth. I shall quote from Hollywood movie ‘Independence’, “We will not perish without a fight. We are going to survive”. It is true for today world. We have to fight to survive. That’s why Ex Prime Minister Tony Blair said, “We may live entire life without going to war. But I did best.”

As I mentioned in my first blog of year 2007, I am happy to confirm that world has moved an inch ahead in bringing peace and growth and I am very-very hopeful and satisfied too for the years to come.

Few of the messages which kept fire within ignited in this year 2007.

Dawn and Dew (Sulekha.com) writes

“I really hate Jassi though I never watched that serial even once! But what these directors must be showing, I know very well. They would demand a girl to be the symbol of sacrifice for their enjoyment and praise the girl or women "jaisi koi nahi!" You know I was once such a girl in the whole of my family circle and they called me the same way! But I realized their hypocrisy very soon though they are respectable people. I thought in my mind "When I grow up and get the right words to express myself just let me see how my smile at their stupidity would kill their conscience!" I really swore at the height of seeing their hypocrisy. They said, "Wow such a good girl! She washes our jhutta plates without being asked or told". I was not at all pleased and felt so shy at their comments. But in stead, I felt, "Why mister, if you feel that that's such a wonderful job why don't you take pride in doing it?" Now they see a sea of change after my marriage and they go dumbstruck and awestruck at my genuine arguments. Of course I put forth politely without failing to acknowledge their many goodnesses otherwise. They are good people. But as you said they are unable to come out from the quagmire of conservatism.

We need you and your voice sir. Go ahead!”

Do I have choice?

You can always read more of dawn and dew at http://dawnanddew.sulekha.com/blog/post/2007/11/unlearn-before-you-learn.htm

And at the end of the year, I received another encouraging compliment from South Africa.

Wing Commander Rajappan writes at the fag end of this year

“Dear Wg Cdr KK Verma & family,

As the year is drawing to a close, I am sure you may be quite happy with your achievements in the past twelve months. I on my behalf and on my family's behalf extend hearty congratulations to you on your success. The reviews and comments which you are receiving stand as testimony to your popularity and the influence you wield on the intellectual community within India and abroad.

I feel proud to be your friend and consider lucky to receive snippets of wisdom from you. You have embarked on a mission to change the way people think and learn. Many a times, the learning what we received in our formative days and the values we imbibed become a hindrance to our new learning. You have tried breaking many myths and I wish you success in your future endeavors. You are the future Stephen Cove of India.

May God give wisdom, energy and the drive for bringing out many such works in future?

Your loving friend

Raja

HAPPY X MAS & HAPPY NEW YEAR”

The great year for the world which was 2007?

- India remained a strong democratic republic
- Indian growth remained intact in spite of dirty and cheap politics
- India by and large started learning few of ground realities from China
- China remained good competitor and emulator
- Pakistan moving inch by inch towards better and stable state
- Bhutto’s death may give wisdom and democracy to Muslims world
- Less bloodshed in Iraq.
- Less terrorists attack in India
- Indian Inc grew without any Institutional support
- Indian government survived
- Communist showed its dirty face in Nandigram
- China unlearning communism day after day
- Russian remains far-far away from real democracy
- Euro challenged dollar…
- Billionaires became more commoner

Indians have come a long way towards development and prosperity. This is time when Indians need not rely on perceived notions of the past. Indians can never earn glory on the past achievements. Indians will have to shape up the future. And this has to be achieved through focused effort, hard work and systematic wisdom creations. Wisdom has to be created and harnesses based on recent technological and social changes. Become bold and shape your future. That is what I do and that is what I tell others to do.

Life is full of ups and down and I am happy to witness all these as a simple Indian. I am happy to share all these with all my friends and readers across the world. It is pleasure to live life experiencing the finest.

It's my life full of events

- Got published my first book “Unlearn Before U_learn”
- My daughter played junior national squash
- I meshed up my investment because of unorganized, dangerously aspired and probably a cheater at heart person like Mr Amrendra Tripathi
- My wife completed her Post-Graduate course in medicine and recovered from bullying by her colleagues
- Received few intimate and forceful reviews of my ‘great’ (thinking) work
http://matheikal.sulekha.com/blog/post/2007/11/unlearn-before-you-learn.htm
- Joined Centre for governance with Mr Prabhat Kumar Ex-Governor.

Future remains hopeful

- Hope to have more sensible world
- Join and be the part of human growth
- Be able to undertake innovation
- Enjoy world peace
- Have part of abundance and enjoy them
- Become part of construction
- Remain enemy of destruction
- Contribute in civil governance

Life does not give too many luxuries of times to keep trying few extremes. We all have twenty four hours a day and we have to make choices to build ourselves or preserve our traditions at the cost of growth, success and peace. This is the time of true professionalism. I do not think that we should live life as a traditional keeper. God has sent us here and in 21st century to be creative and innovative.

Every individual has the power of creations. Only thing, creation demands time, space and effort. It demands resources. It is within all of us.

We all can be innovator and we all should be. The technological resources which we have at hand would be of no use if we don’t create or innovate. We have to do it. We have to unlearn old beliefs, traditions and systems. We have to come out of clutches of our wrong perceptions, belief and expectation. We have to create own path, new road, new avenue and new opportunities. It is all within us. We can do it.

Innovation is the key to growth. We have not seen the growth, success and happiness what western people have seen just because we have not been able to innovate and create. The soundness of all the happiness and prosperity depends upon creations and innovations. Unless we learn to innovate, unless we unlearn to keep following, copying and Xeroxing, we will never be able to innovate. We have to innovate to achieve our dream. We have to innovate and create to make ourselves prosperous the way we expect. And it is not difficult. It is all within us. We have to do it.

Today, wherever I go, I see, I read, I find people doing, working and propagating things, knowledge and products developed by some westerns. How far these proud Indians who feel themselves great can keep doing like these? You have to create your own. You can not keep making some westerner famous and rich. You can not keep doing and working for westerners. You have to do it for yours. You have to it within you. The New Year presents you with new resolution, new opportunities and new direction. Make it happen!!

We have very different era. Here, we are forced to do new things on daily basis. We are forced to accept new things. We are encountering new things most of the time. We are doing new things most of the time unknowingly but what I communicate that we all should do these intentionally and with full conscience.

I must thank all of you for being there for me through out year 2007. I consider you the best of the society and I hope you continue getting the best.

New year 2008 is waiting for us to create, innovate and march forward!!

Happy New Year…. Have great journey 2008!!!

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Subsidies Must Go To History Books

It is believed that the man speaks his mind. As a Finance Minister, it was believed that he is the only Finance Minister in independent India who knows what he does and he does what he knows. But those were the golden moments of this man when he was sheltered and protected by Narshimha Rao as Prime Minister. Gone were the days. He speaks less now because of his orphanism but even today, whenever, he gets free hand, he speaks his mind.

He spoke again without getting noticed by many especially media experts when he shouted openly against all who are saviors of poverty. I call them saviors of poverty because they make policies which are helping poor to remain poor. Popular policies are keeping the poor deprived for centuries. This has to be understood by the policy makers as well as citizens. West Bengal is very right example. So Manmohan Singh, Indian Prime Minister spoke in clear terms. He said what is hurting Indian growth. He said what is needed.

"Subsidies not reaching the poor": Manmohan Singh said.

I think we spend far too much subsidies in the name of equity, with neither equity objectives nor efficiency objectives being met," Singh said while speaking at the golden jubilee celebrations of the Institute of Economic Growth (IEG).

Conveying the clear message of unlearning past, he said, "I think we need a new wave of creative thinking on these issues. Old ways of thinking have run their course." As a Prime Minister, he may not have time and support to carry out administrative and policy reforms, but he feels these needs for the development of the nation.

Singh regretted that "mixed economy' often becomes "mixed-up economy" and called for adopting new middle path for development that combines the efficiency consideration of the market with the equity considerations of the liberal economy." It is an open education for all communist way of thinkers that old ways are not going to serve humanity in 21st century. We have to find new ways.

Manmohan Singh admitted that the experiment with "mixed economy" in the early decades of independence had been disappointing. The country was unable to achieve growth more than 4% for decades. This happened when Industrialization and Automation through Electronics were at the peak all over the world. The nations which followed competitive and capitalist policies were the winners. India remained the losers and was satisfied to maintain its poverty.

Today we are spending 1 lac crores on subsidies and if they are not serving purpose, we must find the ways and means to divert this wastage. Manmohan Singh proposes to give focused attention in agriculture sector and energy sector issues. Energy sector is still worth talking but he wastes the time of the nation and its people when he tries to convince that such an approach was also necessary to address the major concerns pertaining to rural-urban divide and interregional imbalance. For that we need to focus on many other important issues.

Government needs to take some hard stand on issues pertaining to eradication of poverty. The careless talking and exposition of frustration by government agencies and that too Prime Minister is demoralizing for the people of this great nation. Prime Minister must do things which he can do. And certainly he would like to see subsidies disappearing from developed India.

We need to unlearn old ways fast to catch up with the new things are being developed everyday.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Time To Look Within

In India, it is almost a fashion to abuse Hinduism on the name of secularism while on the other hand, protect Muslims and other religions on the name of minority. This might have been good philosophy in the last century when people were happy to get their basic rights. But this is not the case in 21st century. Are you satisfied with your basic rights? I say no, no way. Basic rights are the thing of past. People want their basic amenities and basic privileges to grow and prosper and be happy.
Last week when Muslims protested and wasted their time to protest against Taslima, one of them who dared to write things for Muslims, I felt the miseries of deprived communities. Even leaders make use of the weak emotions to fulfill their own aspirations at the cost of growth. But it must be understood by all educated and informed people that you can never be rich by keeping even deprived and fools poor. (This is my researched statement.) West Bengal and Indian governments have to realize this. They can not keep deprived poor for long just because they are not well informed and emotional. Indian government has lost its credibility when keep focusing on trivial issues.

Similar was the case in Sudan, just over a week ago it was hard to imagine how the international reputation of the Sudanese government could sink any lower.

Accused of sponsoring the killing and rape of hundreds of thousands of its own people in Darfur and then of blocking the peacekeepers who might protect them - barely a week passed without a threat of sanctions or a new UN resolution.
But thanks to the Gillian Gibbons saga, Sudan has managed to transform its public image from pariah state to something approaching a laughing stock. Wisdom prevailed at last. But the sequence of events must be of interest to all educated Indians.

Sept: Gillian Gibbons's class votes to name a teddy bear Muhammad
25 Nov: She is arrested for allegedly insulting Islam's Prophet
27 Nov: Gordon Brown says efforts are being made to release her
28 Nov: Mrs Gibbons is charged with insulting religion and inciting hatred
29 Nov: A Sudanese court finds her guilty of insulting Islam and sentences her to 15 days in prison and deportation
30 Nov: Angry protesters in Khartoum demand a harsher sentence
1 Dec: Two British Muslim peers press Sudanese officials to pardon her
3 Dec: Mrs Gibbons is pardoned by Sudan's president and freed from prison

Gillian should never have been arrested in the first place, let alone held in jail - she had done nothing wrong says Inayat Bunglawala Muslim Council of Britain

In the name of people and their emotions, shrewd leaders are making their way to the top like 19th and even 20th century but in this era of pure democracy as Imran Khan of Pakistan said once, people need better and sensible leaders to take futuristic decisions.

The mob demanding the execution of Gillian Gibbons — for allowing her seven-year-old pupils to name a teddy bear Mohammed — may have been government prompted. In any case, it represents the latest example of one type of Islamist aggression. Most Muslim-majority countries have rules against insulting the Islamic prophet — most notoriously, clauses 295 and 298 of the Pakistan Penal Code. Islamists capriciously use such laws as a weapon to hound free-thinking Muslims and non-Muslims. And I feel that Muslims leaders are doing this at the cost of the growth of Muslim communities.

In 2002, for example, 105 people were killed in riots in Kaduna, Nigeria, following the publication of an article suggesting Mohammed would have approved of a beauty contest. These incidences across the world, including what happened in West Bengal, are the shame for civilized society. Mobs are howling for the death of Taslima Nasreen, the Bangladeshi author critical of Islam. If India has to developed, it has to learn to respect intelligence. It may be true that India can be ruled by not so intelligent people but can not be run without it. Statements coming out of the West, from the Salman Rushdie affair in 1989, to the Danish cartoons, to Pope Benedict's speech in 2006, have inspired multiple violent eruptions.

These Incidents point to two of the deepest problems in modernizing Islam. One is permitting freedom of speech concerning Mohammed, the Koran, and other aspects of religion. The other concerns the right of Muslims to leave Islam. These twin transitions must be accomplished for Islam to leave its current backward and oppressive situations.

The way Hinuds have been marginalized in their own nation, it is not good for anyone who respects democracy. But thanks to the broad heart and social brought up of Hindus, the country like India, China and others are growing astronomically. We all need to take a lesson or two from emerging events. This is the time of consolidation. This is the time to look within.

Can this informed world be made fool like this at the cost of their basic amenities? Why do not we move from our basic right to basic amenities? Indians need to look within. All deprived people across the world need to look within. All those people who feel emotional about growth of deprived and poor should look within. This is the time to act not just react.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Taslima - A India Prestige

Why should Taslima stays in Rajasthan house? Why Modi should invite her to Gujarat? Why an industrialist and reformist like Buddhadeb fears Muslim fundamentalist to oust Taslima? There are many such questions in this country which disturb me where secular fundamentalists reside and rule.

Society has its own way of evolution. I do not have doubt about the evolutionary processes of human beings. Every human being wants time to grow. Every human being wants time to get educated. That's why even learning took 1900 centuries to be made as basic human rights. Education was not prevalent just three generations back. Today when even educated Muslims and secular Hindus talk and discuss about right and wrong of Taslima, I feel pity on the evolution process of human being.

Can human beings learn things faster? In this 21st century and a more clearly global world, why should we take so much time to learn good things? Why we are still continuing with so many bad and fatal thinking and actions? We have some serious problems of fatal thinking. That's why an author like Taslima is insulted. The only known female author in 21st century who had courage in poor, illiterate and deprived Muslims are being treated badly. Why poor do not learn more than doing fatal worship at the cost of their own life?

Taslima has become 'Harijan' of Muslims. What an irony of an educated society? Every body wants to study, get educated and learn but no one wants to unlearn conservativeness and ugliness of society. How can you insult educated author in a civilized society? After such incidence, can Muslim society ever think of producing a vocal and outspoken author for generations and decades?

Is it surprise when Muslims are struggling to get democracy in Bangladesh or even Pakistan? Why should anyone? In a society where you force educated and learned to run away from pillar to post, you will have to die of bomb attacks. You can dream of democracy and good governance but you can never get. You have to be controlled and manipulated by Western power or developed powers. A conscious Muslims and secular Indians must awaken to face the challenges of growth and wisdom.

It is shame on the part of West Bengal and Indian government who call themselves on one hand secular and on the other hand work for terrorists. Can not we respect law and order? Are law and order in India for majority only?

On the other hand what is happening in Malaysia or even Burma? They are the result of brutal ness. All educated and claimed secular people must speak against fundamentalists. The people who believe in human rights and democracy must come out and fight these fundamentalisms at the core of their heart. Why do not Shahrukh or Shabana speak in favour of Taslima? Why we have so much distinction between M F Hussain and Taslima Nasreen?

It is a golden opportunity for India to respect the democracy and individual freedom of people across the world. Taslima is the symbol of liberty, knowledge and humanity. Taslima must be preserved for dying terror world. If MF Hussain can live in UK, Taslima can stay here in India?.

I am surprised why Mayawati or Jayalalita have not offered Taslima a place in her state especially when center is in doldrums. But sooner or later Indians irrespective of caste, creed or religion will welcome such dignified scholar on this land which is going to be developed shortly. India will develop by welcoming such intelligence at their soil. India will become developed at the cost of conservativeness of its neighbours.

How can India hide its boldness? India must have courage to face fundamentalists. This is an opportunity for India to provide full protection to Taslima and make her a symbol of its secular philosophy.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Exposition of Indian Lady

Dear Kamekish sir,

So it is quite clear in my mind that I am contradicting you at two places:

1. Mallika Sherawat's decisions are appreciated in the book.

But it could have been some other example who had done something good to the society. This is what I felt. How can a girl who has contacts with many men can set an example for the society? If the society grows in that direction, can we call it a healthy society? Or is there any peace of mind and good health possible, if the society takes the path of such lewd examples? How about Kiran Bedi? Definitely, she can set a wonderful example in all facets of her personality! She has revolutionized the concept of disciplining the criminals in Tihar jail through Vipassana meditation.( For your kind information I am also a vipassana meditator but not regular in my practice !) She could have become a good testimony for all your good words. This is what I feel.

2. Parents should not be heeded at all.

What I felt was that they need not be heeded in the matters they are not at all familiar with. Like the example you had given about a pilot who took the advice of his mother for his career in flight and about which the mother knew nothing! That is why I appreciated that the examples you have given "are very strong" and really valid. (Personally speaking, when I was not allowed to go to college to pursue my higher studies and faced storm, all the relatives "kindly" adviced me to stop my higher education. Discouraged me as much as they could. Otherwise I was known as the only child who heeded the words of elders so well. So they wondered that my rebellion in this regard (higher education) was quite contrary to my good nature. But I never listened to any of their "advices.")

Good, it really paves way not to listen to the parents or elders in certain things. But is it adviseable to come out of their house? Even here I could reallly agree with you. Because, if I had settled there with my parents and relatives I could not have been what I am today. So my own examples were too strong to support your views. That is why I called you a real saviour of women in my earlier comment sometime ago. This may not sound good for gents. Because they enjoy good amount of freedom from their parents and their small sense to underscore the thirst of women to achieve and grow may not allow them to agree with you or me at all! I have no concern for such words at all! I don't even waste my time in listening to such empty and hypocritical advices given by such narrow minded gentle men.

Where I contradict with you? Leaving them behind and forgetting them to settle in a developed environment! Of course that is shocking to me. We may do it in order to change their mind for sometime. But is it good to keep ourselves completely forgetting them? How far we are thankful to these good human beings who had sweat for us till we got our wings to fly?

To tell you something very frankly, after this contradiction, when I pondered for sometime, I did not fail to see the weaker side of my argument. That is, if the parents are so egoistic to deny settlling in a better environment where their children are ready to embrace them without any objection, why don't they change their mind to go and settle with them? If they bring damnation to themselves because of their own negative and narrow thinking who is responsible? Good. Let's all go ahead.

But definitely, the children also should not take any chance of neglecting their parents even when they are ready to settle with them. Here I am strong. Children,(ie. young generation) in the name becoming developed, should not discard their parents as if they are the objects of "use and throw"! Certainly, if they do such negative unlearning they are bound to be condemned. Your book should have insisted on this point, I researched and felt.

Your book is a wonderful and daring attempt to put your index finger on the nose of the conservative ignorant and even educated but hypocritical society! You really deserve a big accolade for your daredevilry. Go ahead wing commander! Command the world to UNLEARN! Here is one such spirit by your side! Thank you.

With loadz of thanks and regards,

Dawn and Dew.

--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
My Reply to this daring response from an Indian lady,
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
Dear Dawn and Dew

I think you are correct. We contradict at two places.

1. Mallika Sherawat’s decisions are appreciated in the book. As far ‘unlearning’ is concerned, this is correct. However, I have mentioned about the contributions of Kiran Bedi in generating wisdom else where in the book which you must have noticed. But then as far as unlearning is to be discussed, I could not get any better example than Mallika at that moment of time when I wrote these lines in 2005 middle. If I had to write these lines in 2007, I could have thought of another Mallika who grew on Mallika and now competing with her and she is Rakhi Sawant. In recent Hot Times of The Times of India, she declares she has better brain than Mallika. Keeping it short, I had no other daring example than Mallika as far as unlearning is to be communicated.

2. Parents should not be heeded at all. This may be correct in most of the cases but certainly I have never said that it is to be done in every case. I have own logic to put across this point. But if parents are ready to unlearn and follow the path of growth and prosperity, there are no contradictions. So I think you have explained with many of your daring examples which many of Indian ladies feel shy in narrating. But you have done it and I hope your messages are going across many Indians ladies for a more conscious and prosper society where parents have a choice of better life. This is the responsibility of all educated children to provide developed life to their parents.

I have commented few of these in Matheikal blog too. I hope you may have seen them.

http://matheikal.sulekha.com/blog/post/2007/11/unlearn-before-you-learn/comments.htm

I do not know whether I am savior of women but thanks for calling me so.

I agree that the book should have been researched further. I hope to do it if I get time and money.

Contradictions are part of learning. It could be the part of unlearning too. So feel free to contradict if you feel so. I respect the emotions of human being. I understand and appreciate individual choices. But then I only say one has to be aware of own potential.

And that is what is unlearning!!

kamekish

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

How To Innovate?

To be innovative is the biggest craze of the people of 21st century. Everybody wants to be innovative. The educated, well placed and good earning individuals are searching and devoting valuable time for innovation. But very few have knowledge of its internal ingredients. But the secret lies somewhere else. I firmly believe that there is an urgent need to unlearn past to become innovative.

I get surprise when people enter in domain of innovation through historically irrelevant characters and stories. The things which have been researched heavily, written extensively and propagated mercilessly have no innovation left in it. We need to look into more dynamic domain for innovation.

Unlearning past is tricky like learning must been just three generations back. Today we might feel comfortable to decide about learning needs but remain puzzled to find unlearning needs. But without framing unlearning needs, you can never dream to be creative or innovative.

Deepak Chopra rightly says that to create something new, the old has to die. When we are constantly recreating ourselves at material, intellectual and personal levels, what stops us to unlearn those irrelevant characters of history?

To create is to bring into being or existence. And to create something new, we have to die to what is. Something has to dies for something new to emerge.

“Every death is an opportunity for a quantum leap of creativity. Through death, we recreate ourselves at every level; the material level of the body-mind, the intellect, the personality. All of these have to die in order to recreate ourselves.” says Deepak Chopra.

Deepak says that with every death we store the wisdom of our experiences since the beginning of time and take quantum leaps of creativity so that we can look at ourselves again as if for the first time. I disagree with him. The things which are available today in 21st century were never there in the history of human kind. How can we store wisdom? Which wisdom is he talking about? The old wisdom which are stored have to be unlearned to be creative. And that is the challenge of innovation.

Deepak says many beautiful stances for unlearning needs but he remains quite away from reality. In biology there is a term called apoptosis, which means programmed cellular death, in the absence of apoptosis, cells forget to die and this condition is called cancer. Cancer cells don’t know how to die and in their quest for immortality, they kill the host body upon which they are dependent for their life.

Lack of unlearning is like developing cancers. Individuals, societies or nation which do not unlearn basically develop cancer and will die in the time to come. UPA governments under Sonia with phobia of Gandhi, Karat with socialism or BJP with nobleness are like a cancer for India. The cancer is going to kill India. Gandhi and communism are like cancer to the growing society. These cancerous ideas have to die from Indian minds to be innovative. These cancerous elements have to die for India to survive and grow.

Instead of focusing our mind, time and energy on irrelevant histories and characters, we need to let them die for recreating a new India. Innovation will emerge then. A new India with confident outlook will appear then.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Read Before Others Even Concieve

Read the world affairs before others as all other channels report things much later than me. With my critical analysis, I have been able to write about happening around us with more authentic accuracy. I have always been very judicious in my writings and I hope you all must be enjoying it.

Just few days back I wrote a blog immediately after the massive bomb blast in Hydrabad titled “Is it difficult to find terrorists?” I am surprise to see the similar heading in today’s Indian Express. Please see yourself to believe about my individual capability to bring you the best in this reporting world.

http://kamekish.sulekha.com/blog/post/2007/08/is-it-difficult-to-find-terrorists.htm

I repeat few lines for the information of all

“Terrorists are roaming in the form of legislators. They are moving In India in the form of educators, IT professionals and respected leaders. But unfortunately governments are unable to find them.

Indians are being killed by terrorists irrespective of their religion. Over and above young Muslim youths are wasting their life to learn revenge, hatred and animosity. In weak indiscipline governance, anger takes over any other form of emotions easily. In stead of constructive work, they are busy in planning and executing destructions. The youth are being misguided in IT hubs like Bangalore, Hydrabad and Mumbai. “

I do not rest here. I am surprise to see the recent study conducted in United States of America. Many of my friends on yahoo360 blogs from USA even may not agree 100% but I have been informing people through my blogs about the situation which are going to emerge in the world. This is not horoscope or prediction, but this is knowledge based on simple awareness, conscious monitoring and critical observations. When I do this, you all can do this.

I said in the beginning of this year that the years which are ahead of us going to be the best. The world is becoming a peaceful place. I understand the amount of sacrifices; Americans are doing to achieve this, but the whole humanity including Muslims across the world are going to get benefited from this emerging peace in the world. There is a less chance that Muslims parents will worry about their children becoming human bomb, or becoming terrorists or supporting terror group, there is more chance that their children will write some software and help humanity to grow. So Muslims also can take part in constructive work rather than generating destructive mentality.

A global think tank says in their latest report, “The world still has a bright future”. It adds further, “Although great tragedies like Iraq dominate news, the world is living in peace, conflicts actually decreased in the past decades”.

So just relax, enjoy the privileges you have got to be born in 21st century. You all are privileged lot. The peaceful world is waiting for all of us. There is just need to have broad mind, open thinking, innovative ideas and keep away from conservatism and lead a pleasant and successful life. You will have prosperous life. I am not telling this now but I have been writing this from the beginning of this year.

http://kamekish.sulekha.com/blog/post/2007/01/world-is-becoming-better-place.htm

I wrote these lines in my write up for welcoming 2007. I still enjoy these lines and found them so relevant and accurate.

http://kamekish.sulekha.com/blog/post/2006/12/adieu-2006-welcome-2007.htm

Regarding peaceful world, I have used almost similar lines what were written in this United Nations report.

“Peaceful World – As democracy and freedom will spread, the world will move towards more peaceful environment. Amidst all the developments in North Korea or Iran, world will become a peaceful and more pleasurable place. We need to appreciate these developments and enjoy it. ”

I am confident that I shall be doing my best to convey the accurate and authentic analysis of the world affairs. Only thing, you have to generate some confidence in what I write. You must try to understand the depth of my analysis. Because no amount of writing can ever quench the thirst of human curiosity, please feel free to express yourself to make your life better. I shall be glad to explain.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Christian-Muslim Animosity Threatening India

Terrorists attack on Indian soil is nothing new. But after the massive bomb blast in Hydrabad which has killed more than 60 people and that too after few days of the attack on Taslima Nasreen, compelled to think about the world scenario from a different angle. I do not know how many of you will be ready to take my view on this? But I have reasons to believe so if I recall the history of more than 500 years of world.

Indians and Hindus are suffering heavily of the animosity of a new kind. The reasons are vague and ambiguous. But it is interesting to analyze.

I want to raise a simple question. How many of us will agree that there is an animosity between Christian and Muslim? I think – everyone irrespective of caste, creed, religion or region. After 9/11 this animosity became the world affair. Earlier this animosity was being fought under the carpet. Hardly any intelligentsia from Hindus, Muslims or Christians took notice of happenings. But now world is witnessing Christian-Muslim animosity.

It all started with the division of Indian continent. Till today, BBC is unable to carve Kashmir with India to ensure that the wound remains live. Why?

There is a new dimension to the world problems. India is suffering heavily because of Christian-Muslim animosity. But the most important question comes, why India is suffering as a result of animosity between Christian-Muslim?

India remains on top in the map of Muslim terrorists after USA, UK or Israel. India suffers because of this on regular intervals. A weak governance act like fire and Indians suffers without break. The world media, intelligentsia and powerful lobby are unable to notice the India’s situation. Indians leaders and media are illiterate enough to ignore this.

The attack on twin tower killing 4000 at once was a clear indication of Christian-Muslim animosity. This brought the animosity in open in the eye of the world. Today, it has reached at peak when US is attacking on Afghanistan and Iraq and now planning to attack on Iran. The world is sorting out the old issues. There is a possibility that the animosity will convert to friendship in some form or other because it is an unequal war, but it has to take some time.

Now the question comes, in such turning moment, how India is going to save itself? USA and even UK are able to protect themselves and save the anticipated huge blasts one after other. But what is going to happen to India run by weak people at top from Sonia to Manmohan to Pratibha Patil.

Indians are suffering miserably. The toll has grown ominous. For the past two years, India was second only to Iraq in the number of terrorist fatalities worldwide, with 1,361 deaths in 2005 and 1,256 in 2006, according to statistics compiled by the U.S. government's National Counter terrorism Center.

India has to suffer. Indians have to face the music. Indians are being killed on regular basis. Indian Muslims are becoming terrorists. Indian people are getting killed. And all these happen because of poor law and order and above all poor appreciations of the global situations. Indians will remain deprived and become terrorists. Whether Indian Muslims become terrorists or Hindus are killed, it is a loss to India.

I was shocked to see the news analysis in one of the Western channel (Yahoo News) that: a pair of almost simultaneous bombings by Islamic extremists tore through a popular family restaurant and an outdoor area on Saturday night, killing at least 42 people in this southern Indian city was because of Hindu-Muslim tensions.

Did anybody talked about Christian-Muslim tension when world trade center was brought to ground? How can the systematic and planned bomb blast on poorly managed Indian city be attributed to Hindu-Muslim tensions? It is pathetic to find that even Indian reporters do not notice these writings. Why should not this biased approach of western media be reported on Indian TV channels?
Similarly I was surprised to see the article of Daniel Pipes. He in an article ‘Ban Islam’, published in New York Times writes, “In perhaps the most serious contemporary attempt to ban the Koran, a Hindu group argued in 1984–85 that the Islamic scriptures contain "numerous sayings, repeated in the book over and over again, which on grounds of religion promote disharmony, feeling of enmity, hatred and ill-will between different religious communities and incite people to commit violence and disturb public tranquility." It is good for Western thinkers to quote Indian statement for their benefit.
One side they talk about Hindu-Muslim tension other side they write something else. The same yahoo news writes, “Officials confirmed on Sunday that foreign-based Islamic extremists may have been behind the attacks.” Then from where the question of Hindu-Muslim tension was raised and why?

It further contradicts on its own idea of tension when it writes. "Available information points to the involvement of terrorist organizations based in Bangladesh and Pakistan," Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the chief minister of Andhra Pradesh state, where Hydrabad is located, told reporters after an emergency state Cabinet meeting. Combined Forces are attacking in Pakistan without asking the local government to ensure that terrorist activities are curbed. Reporters must understand the responsibility of combined forces to fight against terrorists.

Reddy did not name any groups, but Indian media reports, quoting unnamed security officials, identified the Bangladesh-based Harkatul Jihad Al-Islami. Reddy declined to provide more details. "It is not possible to divulge all this information," he said. Harkatul, which is banned in Bangladesh, wants to establish strict Islamic rule in Bangladesh, a Muslim-majority nation governed by secular laws.

The news article writes further about the tension that Hindu-Muslim animosity runs deep in Hyderabad, where a bombing at a historic mosque killed 11 people in May. Another five people died in subsequent clashes between security forces and Muslim protesters angered by what they said was a lack of police protection.

This is a terrorist attack and it has been confirmed by many earlier attacks.
"This is a terrorist act," said Y.S. Rajasekhara Reddy, the chief minister for Andhra Pradesh state, where Hyderabad is located.

But I am unable to understand why these events are being categorized in animosity angle. This is ridiculous. From my point of view today world is facing the global threat because of the Christian-Muslim animosity and there is no reason to think otherwise.

Much of India's Hindu-Muslim animosity is rooted in disputes over the Himalayan territory of Kashmir, divided between India and Pakistan but claimed in its entirety by both countries. More than a dozen Islamic insurgent groups are fighting for Kashmir's independence or its merger with Pakistan. I doubt that any insurgents are fighting for Kashmir. They are fighting unresolved battle of Al-Qaeda who has successfully globalized the animosity between Christians and Muslims.

The report writes that more than 80 percent of India's 1.1 billion people are Hindu and 13 percent are Muslim. But in Hydrabad, Muslims make up 40 percent of the population of 7 million. But there has never been any fighting between Hindu-Muslims. If there are any it is all just a law and order problems. Even Gujarat has no such problems. India has been able to resolve the issues. Even there used to be riot in 70s or 80s but they were mere a governance problem because I can quote the example of Bihar where riots were frequent. But as soon as Lalu came to power in the beginning of 90s, there have been no riots in Bihar. Bihar has forgotten that there used to be riot, Hindu-Muslim riots.

The idea conveyed in foreign media and even Indian media reporting like this is poisonous to Indian society and global peace. The concept of Christian-Muslim animosity is deep rooted, it must have started with British overthrowing Muslims to rule over India in 16th century. A Christian as top leader may be a hidden threat to India and Indians.

It is unfortunate at this critical time that we have weak people at top in India. When George Bush is threatening Iran from Washington to face dire consequences for Iranian misadventure, Indian home Minister shows his incapability openly. "Our country is so big that even if we have the information that something is planned, we do not know where or when," Home Minister Shivraj Patil said after the Hyderabad attacks. It appears that a senior minister of economically fastest growing nation talks like coward manager as far as safety of the people is concerned. It is shame.

A series of terrorist bombings have ripped across India in the past two years. It’s all not because of Hindu-Muslim animosity but because of India’s closeness to USA. In July 2006, bombs in seven Mumbai commuter trains killed more than 200 people, attacks blamed on Pakistan-based Muslim militants. There have been some intentional biases in report like this what I saw in yahoo news. This must be going on for long time but in today connected world, we need to understand the world differently. This is a wrong way to understand the world dynamics.

Hindus have a long way to go before it becomes a potent threat to Muslims so talking about Hindu-Muslim tension from my point of view is ridiculous. But certainly as China’s GDP is rising with more than 10%, there is a possibility that Chinese-Muslim animosity will be seen in the world scene shortly. A changing geopolitical situation must encourage people to look the world from different angle.

Presently world must prepare and face the consequence of Christian-Muslim animosity. India has to prepare well to fight these ugly battles if at all wants to develop.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!

Enjoy Unlearning!

Mashelkar Innovation

Dear Friend,

The program was available in iiuindia calendar. It was a usual evening Friday monthly membership lecture at AIMA headquarters at Lodi Road, New Delhi.

Like last time, we had lecture delivered by Shiv Khera, this time, it was delivered by Mashelkar.

Theme: Civil Society and Governance

Dr R A Mashelkar, Former Director General, Council of Scientific & Industrial Research, and Secretary, Department of Scientific & Industrial Research, Government of India, an eminent internationally recognized personality.

During Shiv Khera time, hall was full while this time all oldies were in presence. I personally feel that Mashelkar is one of the few well known scientists available in the country. I am privileged to know this man since last many years. I am fortunate interacting with him earlier too. This time also I enjoyed every moment I spent in his presence.

India needs not only few persons like him but many-many more. And I hope that India will have those people around.

It is my pleasure to present the abstract of his presentation (especially for those who could attend the lecture).

The topic is new for me but I will try to do justice with time and effort. I will be presenting outsider view of civil society. Basically, I am scientist and technologist.

Let us see what is happening around the world.

One new thing is eminent - Changing geography of science.

If we compare three different continents in the world – America, Europe and Asia, earlier research works in science were in the order mentioned.

Now it is in reverse order - Asia, Europe and America.

All the centuries have been ruled by IC

19th century – Internal combustion engine
20th century – Integrated circuits
21st century – India-China, but I say Innovation-creativity,

If we study history of growth and development, we find that it was always innovation and creativity which led to growth and development for human society.

I have done extensive research to find the definition of civil society.
Civil society is the integration of shared interests, shared values, shared purposes and collective action.

Corruption and re-tapeism are the biggest hindrance of civil society. There is an urgent need to take some concrete steps to remove this evil however this remains a big challenge for us. (A weak Prime Minister and a dump President can hardly give courage and confidence needed to hard working Indians.)

If India has to be a great nation it needs great governance.

I have also raised questions like, what academics are doing.
We need to have enlightened democracy. But how can we get enlighten democracy when it relies heavily on uneducated voters.

Information Technology plays a very critical role in the development of our society. It has changed life style. It remains a challenge for us to exploit IT for our growth and development. (On my question that why Infosys is still doing 90% business with outside India? Mashelkar had no answer. India needs to awaken of its own potential. India has yet to learn to respect its own professionals and experts.)

IT needs to be used to spread literacy and education. TCS has shown through practical exercises.)

With proper education, future should emerge like as follow,

Child centered education
Women centered family
Family centered humanity
Knowledge centered society
Innovative centered India

Civil society – refers unquashed, collective interest, shared values, shared purposes. However, even in governance, we are not using the combined wisdom for our growth.

I am pained to hear about the impositions of Directors by governments in all IIMs in the country. Higher institutions need to be protected for their autonomous functioning.

We need citizen centered democratic governance

But what is happening… we are in mesh… you are correct.

I am happy that at the end of the lecture he replied only one question and that was mine. Not only that, he was thrilled to know that I have developed a theory for human development and written a book. He took the book and promised me to give feedback as early as possible.

The book was also liked by Mr Prabhat Kumar, Former Cabinet Secretary, who remains the brain behind the series of lecture on Civil Society and Governance. He has also promised to read the book and comment on it as early as possible.

India needs innovation. Amidst all these, innovation must remain the priority of intellectuals. You need good theories, right innovations, enlightened democracy and a civil society with good governance.

Thanks.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!

Enjoy Unlearning!

Squash Girls From New Delhi

India badly needs excellence in any field you can name. In spite of tremendous institutional growth achieved by individual inspired organizations, excellence at large is deceiving us at every front. Today when people’s President who still claims that India will become developed by 2020, I feel the need to talk about excellence becomes more important.

Sania Mirza is a big hope in this country of more than 50 crores females. Today Sania has reached to the final of the $600,000 WTA Bank of the West Classic in Stanford, where she will play with the top-seeded Russian Anna Chakvetadze, ranked No 7 in the world.

Amidst Sania and Saina, recently, National Squash championship concluded at Chenai. And two Chenai girls fought in final to clinch the medal. Joshna Chinappa defeated Surbhi Misra 9-5,9-1,9-4 in just 22 minutes and Depika Pallikal defeated Anwesa Reddy 91,9-3, 10-8 in 20 minutes and were in the final and Chinappa won the title for fifth consecutive times and over seventh time. It is a great achievement. Depika is following the path to achieve the title. She is just 16. She lost fighting but I expect that she may cross hurdle next time to win the title.

Today, when DSOI squash champion Sohail returned after the tournament, reminded us of condition of National Championships. On the boys’ side, Saurav Ghosal remains at top. He defeated Siddharth Suchde of Maharastra in the final. I remember him playing in last year final at Gymkhana club squash court. He is good and needs more support and encouragement to beat the battle.

Squash is not very familiar game in India. This has some recognition in defence frorces and we need to be thankful to British for this. For civilian even the resources are not available in general. Now a days, this game is gaining popularity and many courts are being constructed. People are finding fun and opportunity to reach to foreign univerisiites through such game. But achieving excellence is tough because we do not have good court, good coach, competitive players and world class kits. One has to put up too much effort to make good all these.

In such scarce situation, when Rahul arranged a summer squash camp at Kendriya Vdyalaya R K Puram in New Delhi, all the five squash playing girls like Sachika (Delhi champion), Shelly, V Shruti, and Janet were there. For fifteen days, it was good fresh up camp and training for good squash under the guidance of Col Manprit who himself was a national champion for many years. The boys and girls struggled hard to learn and horn their skills for the game.

The training resulted in Delhi boys’ team coming third at national level. As per Sohail, it is a good achievement. Girls’ numbers were not enough to form the team. The coach working at DSOI, Dhaula Kuan confirms his helplessness in generating interest in people to play games or encourage their children for games.

Even if Delhi Chief Minister relative plays squash, this game has very few takers. Media hardly talks about these issues which remains busy in the runs made by Sachin Tendulkar. Individuals have to put up tremendous efforts to achieve a simple growth. Excellence is too far even to be talked about. A highly developed city of India New Delhi has no girl’s team in squash. There is no plan. There is no encouragement. There is no awareness. We still have a long way to go as far as achieving excellence is concerned.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!

Enjoy Unlearning!

Wonders of the World

We all are aware about the wonders of the world which our ancestors have made through bricks and stones. From my point of view, they are just the physical wonders. If I compare today with modern wonders, I find them insignificant. I will talk about few virtual wonders about which experts are not talking today, people are not discussing about but for the betterment of coming generations, we must discuss more and more about these wonders that I am going to write in this blog. And I will try to explain that why they are better wonders than physical wonders.

These few virtual wonders occur because of technology, globalization and democracy.

The technological wonders are now everyday affair for many people in this world. These wonders are airplanes, computers, and mobile phones and so on.

The wonders because of globalization are alleviations of poverty. The accumulations of assets by individuals in this world have been done not through the efforts of few generations but just in one generation. I like to quote few of these individuals. Narayana Murthy and Ambani from India who created billions in just one generation, Bill Gates and Google brothers from USA created billions and so on are wonders of 21st century. Are not these a wonders?

But my focus today is for democratic wonders.

The democracy is a beautiful form of governance in this modern world. All conscious and educated individuals feel the necessity of these. You ask any free people he or she will never get tired of telling the plus points of democracy but when people want to die for democracy in the countries like Nepal or Pakistan, it speaks volume. People even in the Muslim world will be ready to die for it if they taste freedom just once. Till the time rituals keep them busy and entangled, they may be controlled through military rulers or dictatorships or pseudo-democracy but once they are free from rituals to think aloud, they would like to have full real democracy where any individual can get capability to create wonders.

A point to note: In 21st century, every individual has the capability to create wonders!!

That is what happened in the recent elections in Uttar Pradesh, the biggest state of India. Democratic wonders have occurred. All intelligence failed. All predictions lagged behind. The established organizations were demolished. Communist and Congress lost to harness credit for past glory. The established khandani party managers lagged miserably in their strategic efforts. Gandhi failed. Bachchan failed. A wonder took place. Mayawati wins election with majority. Mayawati is a democratic wonder.

She wins when Gandhi was at peak with young Rahul taking politics as his birthright. Young Priyanka tried all her smiles to rule ignorant crowd. But democracy played its wonder. It produced Maya. Sonia may complain about organizational fault but she must know basic. If Congress has no strong organization, then who has better organization on this land - Mamta, Jaya, Rabri or Chandrababu Naidu? The time for established khandani elitist has come to the stage of extinction. Now, Gandhi will be wiped out from this land in next 4-5 years.

Earlier and even now our media, print as well as TV, experts are hardly aware about the reasons of these wonders. They keep guessing and wasting educated and intellectual’s resources. They keep talking about caste, which has no relevance to this flat world. The established intellectuals and social researchers like Yogendra Yadav and others are unnecessary talking about caste. Because of these people are forced to waste plenty of time discussing insignificant issues. Is it a surprise if established and famous people do not have time to breath properly?

Talks about these wonders will be the topic of discussions for long time to come. Like people are studying the success of Lalu all over the world even in Oxford University, they will study about Maya for long time. The change in syllabus will be essential necessity for growth and innovation.

But is it easy to understand these wonders of democracy. It is not unique, there are many and I would list few of them-

1. Obama thinking to become President of USA
2. Bill Clinton as US President and now trying to be the first husband.
3. Hamas ruling Palestine
4. Ahmadinejad ruling Iran
5. Rabri as Chief Minister
6. Lalu as Railway Minister
7. Jayalalita as Chief Minister
8. Uma Bharti became the Chief Minister

There are many examples but I shall leave them for my readers to guess.

Talking about all these wonders extensively in blog may not be feasible especially when people hardly have time to read the write up from not so famous writer. People have no obligation of regionalism, casteism or religious backing to read and praise. All are happy in their small circular world in this flat environment. The fantastic writings and superb analyses go waste most of the time. I have given the glimpse of many of these happening in the world in my book written in 2005. But, people are still searching for reasons and wasting their time. They are busy in reinventing wheels and claiming to be their innovations and contributions. With time, this disrespect to creations has to vanish for the growth of human beings.

But for the time being, this much is good enough to throw some light especially for those who dare to respect innovative ideas.

How wonders like Maya occurred to this civilization. I challenge to all the experts to throw some light upon this, I doubt for their successes. They will fail. Not because they do not have intelligence, it is because they have never witnessed such changes. They are trying to look towards future with the spectacles of past. Can you ever know future without experiencing the changes? You have to live to experience. There are no write-ups for such successes. Writing about 1857 is different ball game. Writing about these wonders of 21st century is another. How can they predict?

Even India Today does not hesitate to show Maya dictatorial view when it writes, “The age of Maya will be marked by dictatorial temptations of the supreme leader.” What are they talking about? They still think in the dictatorial terms of Congress rule of 1947 when there was no opposition. Today there are list of oppositions. Mulayam, CBI, Rahul and Kalyan will ever allow anyone to rest? It may be easy for our established analyst to write about dictatorial mentality of Maya. Can they ever dare to write dictatorial mentality of Arjun or Sonia when she forces all poverty stricken polices for the nation? We need to understand the ground situations in new perspectives.

Like technologies have produced wonders in the area of product and services, can you expect that it can produce wisdom and experts too? Just think over. And read the reasons for how the wonders like Maya are created because of democracy. Few of reasons for democratic wonders are as follows.

1. Never ask favour from established professionals
2. Focus on your wisdom and direction
3. Don’t rely on old conservative intellectuals from developing world
4. Set your goal and unique path
5. Never talk to Press because most of the time they are part of established organization which has no future unless revamped.
6. Disclose destinations at time but not path, let people keep guessing
7. Leave parents shadow to give due gifts of 21st century – Don’t behave like Abhishek or Anil to remain in the shadow.
8. Never get discouraged from the view of majority because they are the part of feudal system
9. Use modern resources to augument your efforts
10. Search a godfather
11. Create wisdom domain
12. Do it alone.

How difficult it would be for Maya to prepare herself for such a big achievement all alone? There is no coterie, no managers and no family to share the successes. That’s why she almost giggled during swearing ceremony. In this if she behaves sometime like Jaya, sometime like Lalu or other time like Sonia or Indira Gandhi, she has all the right to behave like that. She has to set her own goals. She has to scribe her own reactions. That is where I feel I have explained in bits and pieces about the growth mechanism of individuals like Maya.

Life has given you opportunities. Everyone has capabilities to do wonders. You have potential. You are not scheduled caste, backward or forward, you are not Sikh, you are not Muslim, you are not Bengali or Tamilians. These are all wrong perceptions. You are energy. You can create wonders. Believe me!!

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

India's Missing Superstars

On Monday 23 Apr 2007, The Economics Times reported news about Gallup CEO Jim Clifton visit who is coming next week.

The Gallup World Poll, which is measuring the well being and overall status of the world’s citizen for the next 100 years, it is a mega exercise spanning more than 130 countries and representing 95% of the world’s adult population. The points which he has raised are eye opening for India. Our policy makers who may not have knowledge and wisdom to understand these but must try to read them.

Leaders today have to build new institutions to compete globally.

India has to be able to manage migration patterns to retain its most successful people.

For all those sitting pretty with BRIC report projections, Mr. Clifton had a warning: “The US as an economy was predicted to fall to third place by now, after Germany and Japan. When we compare to the members talked about the projections, today the US has $11 trillion of unplanned, unpredicted income – most of its wealth has generated by a small band of inventors and entrepreneurs, of which half were not Americans and a large part of them were Indians.

India can not lose its superstars!!

Gallup World Poll data from 2006 shows that only about 20% of urban Indians even in the younger age group had even heard of outsourcing or BPO. It is shame for the country like India.

It is a shame to media who remain busy in showing Aishwarya or Prince without giving due considerations to knowledge, information and wisdom. Indian print media and others are failing India.

What a disturbing ground situations of India. I wrote a book in 2005 with main emphasis on the new breeds of youth who are going to shap this nation. These new energetic youth emerging out of call centers and BPOs are going to change the shape of this growing nation. But this survey confirms that knowledge is not that deep in the society. This is a difficult task. How to take these great Indian messages to people when they are wasting time in watching trivial news or information?

There are 16000 publishers in India and they publish 2000 titles. It is a shame for the nation. In spite of this less work output, when you go to publishers, they do not give due attentions to new ideas, books are not getting published. Society remains ignorant. People are not aware about new avenues. Country is at loss.

Can India afford to miss Information opportunity too in desire to save its old culture?

Indians sitting on network fail the data of Gallup. Indian needs to be awakening from their day to day problems to compete with this world.

He surprises with his critical statement. Places like Google celebrate the individual; India does not.

How can Indian inventors and innovators flourish?

How can India grow? Till the time, we learn to respect our talents and assets, India will remain backward. We will have to keep working for reservation for even forward people too. Even on Sulekha, most of our blog writers and readers concentrate on some trivial stories rather than some critical analysis or wisdom. We need to change our attention. We need to change our area of focus. We need to think beyond Cricket, Bachchan, Gandhi etc. to move and prosper.

We all need to think over our deprivations!!

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Attending Funerals

Virginia Tech killing has sent chill feeling to all the conscious people across the world. This is one of the deadliest events in the history of America. There are various form of expressions for such event. From Indian point of view, I would like to write about the social complications which become obvious from this event.

Professor Loganathan was killed in the shooting. This killing reminds me a different concept.
Just a day before his death, Professor Loga called his parents and told, “You’re getting old, why do you want to stay in a remote village all alone? Your grandchildren would love to have your company here.” He had implored his parents similarly many times before and even goaded them to get passports. But, how many conservative parents are ready to listen their intelligent sons or daughters?

Professor Loganathan moved to the US from the southern Indian state of Tamil Nadu to teach. He joined Virginia Tech in the late 1970s and had remained there ever since, working in the department of civil and environmental engineering.

He is survived by his wife, Usha, and two daughters.

His brother, Palanivelu, said his elder sibling had been "a bright boy since birth".
How difficult even for a bright son to convince even not so intellectual parents to have a prosperous life? I personally feel that all this happens because of lack of unlearning habits in the individuals.
I wrote a story of similar mature in my book “Unlearn Before U-learn” and tried to find answers for many hidden questions. I am reproducing the story for my entire blogger friends to make sense of these complicated questions of unlearning.

Why people are forced to join funerals?

What are the compulsions of parents? What are the options with sons or daughters? How to handle them?

Read the story to believe the similarity.

Binda, who had a problem with his father, forgot him for approximately fifteen years. During this period, he became the proud father of five sons and one daughter as per his mother’s wish because she had only one son and one daughter. He earned a little money. After exiling himself for so long, he felt homesick. He went home to his father. Mungi had also become mild by that time. He did not mind his son’s homecoming.
It is very difficult in this world to have faith in someone when you want to invest your hard-earned money. The best bet goes to respective hometown or village even if we are not very sure of any return or future. Binda also spent his hard-earned money of Rs 40,000 in his small village to build a pucca makan, so called a concrete building in the year 1974. He thought that since his children were small and there was not much expenditure, he could bear this burden and do something for his better future. Rs 40,000 in the seventies were a huge amount. As he made the Pucca makan, he made sure to take his entire family to the village every year to make them aware of reality and to get attached to the old culture and traditions. The children who were studying in various classes, used to hate spending that one month’s vacation in the village. They were too small to have a choice. In a poor family, when the elders live life on chance and luck, how can the children have choice? Time passed, every year the same routine continued till his eldest son Bhola joined a college in the city. He refused to join them. He became serious about his career. He saw opportunities. He saw that the engineering students used to study hard and enjoy life. He saw the magnificent difference between the people of the village who had no fun and hope in their lives and the people of the city who had a better and brighter life. He started realizing the differences. He studied hard and cleared the engineering entrance test.
Binda hardly visualized the repercussion of his son’s success. He celebrated his son’s admission in engineering college. He distributed sweets. He had lots of praise for his son in front of his colleagues and neighbours. In the neighbourhood, his status had improved overnight. People also congratulated him. He was thrilled at his son’s performance. The son was also delighted that he could do what his father had dreamt of since his childhood. Time flew and the other children also followed the path of the elder brother. Three of them joined engineering colleges and one did medicine. The house now had four engineers and one doctor. Binda hardly got help from his aspiring sons to look after his ancestral house. For many years, they could not take care of their investment at the hometown. Mungi was managing that. Once in a year, Binda used to go to village and spend some time to ensure that his retirement would pass happily. What a mirage!
For a working class family, it is a great privilege to put their children into good professional courses. Engineering and medicines were the sureshot professions of the 1980s, which made children from poor or middle class families executives. Bhola, being the eldest and brightest, finished his engineering and joined a good company. He was earning well and staying in a metro city. During that time, he witnessed the difference of life at various places in the country. The life at smaller and poorer places is like hell compared to life in metro cities. In a short span of a few years he saw the length and breadth of the country like India. He observed that in a small town, there is nil or very meagre opportunities while in the metros, you have tremendous opportunities. The difference in the quality of living is tremendous. Bhola was very conscious of these developments. He made sure that all his brothers could find jobs outside that small town and move to big places. There were significant changes of the status in the lives of his brothers. All were very well settled and earning good money. All were able to exploit the secular credentials of the country. During the 1990s, when Narshimaha Rao opened the economy, all brothers could buy cars and houses through bank loans. They tasted the growth in a rising economy.

Binda had to retire and he was planning to settle in his hometown. Bhola didn’t like this idea. He tried his best so that they settle in a metro city or at least a good city. But Binda did not agree. He did not have any responsibility to his rising sons. He went to the village with his wife. He again spent a lakh of rupees in repair his pucca makan. In the eighties too he had spent some eighty thousand rupees on the same makan. Bhola was frustrated, demoralized and disgruntled. He had so many dreams to keep his parents in a better state. When he joined engineering, he would study all night thinking that he will be able to earn enough to look after his poor and deprived parents. He will be able to take care of them. He will be able to provide them with all the basic comforts of life. But nothing happens in life in an easy way. Bhola could hardly get time from his highly demanding job to convince and educate his father about a better life. There is a limitation to wisdom. Your knowledge enhances till you keep reading and learning. You keep learning till you are compulsorily unlearning. Once you start working within your existing knowledge domain, you stop growing. The same thing happened with Binda. For fifty-eight years, he kept on changing and progressing, but when the question of reaping those fruits came, he almost behaved in the same fashion that his father had long ago. He did not listen to the advice of his bright and highly educated son. Is this what happened between the generations? Is this what happens in the family of a developing country? Who is going to understand?
There is a severe limitation of learning or even unlearning. Like learning good things, even unlearning bad things does not come naturally. One learns the same thing that he has hated in his environment unless he tries to change. He has no option to learn from anywhere. He learns all the unwanted behaviour from his environment unconsciously. He hardly comes to know about these developments. Binda also faced the same problems. He behaved in a similar fashion that his illiterate father had around 30 years ago. Binda never liked the way his sons married the girls of their choice and that too two of them from other castes. His wife also could not tolerate this. When the children wanted to enjoy their achievements with their parents, Binda and his wife were living a secluded life in the village. The changes in life are so fast and drastic that we hardly comprehend things even for our own comfort. We find difficult to bother for our basic necessities. While all the children were struggling in their respective jobs including one in Boston, US, their parents were living a miserable and deprived life in a village. Bhola had felt from the beginning that the village property was not worth maintaining; rather it was more a burden than an asset for an educated person. He was correct. The parents could not live even for a year in that remote and miserable place especially after staying for thirty years in town. They changed their location to a small town at Dhanbad but continued with a deprived life despite the richness of assets in rupees and dollars.
Life hardly gives one the luxury or choice of a good life in a bad place. Bhola tried his best to make his parents dispose off their property in the village and small town and join him in the metro. But it did not materialize. Rather, his illiterate mother even suggested at the age of sixty six to his highly educated and most successful son of forty four should spend a few lakhs to build a house in the small town. What is the compulsion of poverty? Bhola rememberd Rs 40,000 spent in the seventies in the village. Today, in the 21st century, it has become a liability after forty years. The house has become depleted and managing it is difficult. Because if you go to the village, law and order is so bad that you are not sure whether you will be able to come back. How could you think of anything else? Since the 1970s, the equity capital in India has increased 460 times; it means that if Binda had spent Rs 40,000 in equity in the 1970s, today in 2005, he would have got Rs 40,000 X 460 – Rs 1,84,00,000 (approx Rs 2 crores). Forget about the Rs 80,000 he spent in the 1980s and the one lakh he spent in 2001 on the same house in the same village. What a richness of continuation of poverty! Can help from the World Bank or United Nations be able to eradicate the inbuilt poverty in the traditional system? Could the advice of Jeffery D Sachs help this self-imposed poverty? Is eradication of poverty going to take a few generations in developing countries even in the 21st century?

Bhola’s illiterate mother hardly understands mathematics. In a developing world, there is a very different kind of inertia. Clear and open mathematics is not understood. The common man is hardly aware or even conscious about common ideas. The parents educate their sons or daughter, but they are not ready to listen to their advice and not even ready to take their support. They do not believe their wisdom. They do not rely on them. They are not ready to enjoy the newly achieved luxury of a good life. Their ego system remains at a peak. Their decision making systems remain of 1960s in the twenty-first century. This results in a total waste of their lifetime efforts. They remain deprived, poor and miserable. Binda also passed his last days in a similar fashion and one fine day, amidst all this prosperity, he left this world like his father, Mungi.

Like father like son. Binda’s youngest son, a civil engineer employed in the Public Works department in the United States of America along with his civil engineer wife, a Gujarati Brahmin girl and their one son and one daughter came to the small town of Dhanbad (where there is no landing facility) to pay homage to his father. What a rich homage to a deprived father, deprived of basic living facilities!

Today, when Professor Loganathan’s parents and relatives were provided passports and immediate visa to join the funeral, it verified my faith of the unlearning needs. Parents and relatives were obliged for this kind support of media and government but what happened to that intelligent son who gave the life to ensure that their parents visit USA at least once.

What a great tragedy of developing sons?

Sons have to give life to ensure a simple change.

Are parents in all over the world listening to ensure change? Can we unlearn to enjoy life?

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

How Families Are Producing Osama and Cho?

Today whole world is discussing to know how families across world are producing Osama or Cho knowingly or unknowingly. The matter is serious and it concerns one and all. As I talked about disastrous force in human’s life which makes an individual a disastrous person, I shall talk about how contradictions are generated in a very simple life.
Today, in this information age, information is not limited to few selected privileged individuals but is available to one and all at very meager price. In this environment, families need to focus on few of the critical issues while they bring up their children towards some major success and achievements.
In due course of time, we rear so many contradictions in our existence that we make our life miserable. I shall narrate a real life story of a growing individual, in his own words -

“I am working in the Delhi Police. I am staying in one of the posh areas of Delhi. I have four children. The eldest daughter stays in the village and studies in a school in Otava near Agra so that she can learn the old culture of our society for which we Indians are very proud. I have put my one son and one daughter in DPS RK Puram. They are learning all the latest developments of society. They are learning things very fast. They speak in English. They are studying in English. It is a different story that we never speak English at home. My wife joins sometime at my Delhi residence. Otherwise, she stays in the village to look after farming with another son three years old. I have my two brothers and four sisters staying in the village. They are staying in the joint family except my eldest brother who stays separately in the same village. He and his wife are teachers and they have two children. They are studying in the same school where my brother and sister-in-law are teaching.

I am the only advanced and most literate one who could get service outside the village and work in Delhi. I am staying outside and seeing the advanced world but, you see sir, I have not forgotten the village and my ancient culture. I am so proud of my traditions. I still remember when my father refused to allow me to marry a daughter of my senior with whom I fell in love. We saw few movies together. I took her few times to famous Lodi Gardens to understand each other in a better way. Sir, Lodi Gardens is really a nice place to take your not so knowledgeable girlfriend to learn a few basics of love. There are many live examples there to show to your girlfriend. But after all this, finally I married, as per my father’s wishes, a girl from nearby village. My wife is not very literate. She has passed her sixth class from her village school. When she got involved with a boy of the tenth class, her father refused to send her to school so that she should not learn bad things of society. Over and above, it is so difficult to keep our prestige intact if our daughter gets involved in some love affair. My father-in-law that way was very strict. He was disciplined too. He carried out all his family responsibilities in time. He married his daughter at the age of sixteen. My wife is very hard working and sincere. She takes care of my entire house-hold activities. She gets up at 4 o’clock and sleeps at 12 o’clock at the night after everybody sleeps. She has never complained to me about anything.

I am very proud of my achievements. In life, you have to sacrifice a bit to get some prestige. I am very sure that I shall always try to teach the ‘cultural richness’ of my ancestors to my children. Once in a year, I bring my son and daughter studying at DPS, to the village for two months during their summer vacation. I leave them in the village with their mother so that they can learn the basics of the ‘sound culture’ of our village. They do not get a chance to speak in English in the village but I am hopeful that the sound culture which they learn during the vacations will be useful in the long run compared to those who send their children to “Your Kid ‘R’ Our Kids” for summer camp and learn salsa, painting, acting, modelling, horse riding or instrumental music etc.

I want to educate my children with the best of education available so that they can become good officers in some government department and earn a lot of money and prestige. Officers in government departments get lots of prestige and money from the public. At the same time, I want to maintain the village set-up so that after retirement I or even my children can settle there and live a good life in old age. I know there are lots of problems in the village like poor electricity, no medical facilities, no good school or college, no road, no communication and so on, but at least I am very proud of my village. My grandfathers have taught me that I should not sell or dispose off my ancestral property. I shall not do it at least during my time. I am not sure of my children especially who are studying in DPS. Sometime, their talk gives me shivers.”
Today when heinous crime has been done in USA by a small boy of 24 years old, killing 32 people at stretch, this story reminds me some basic queries. The contradictions are more prevalent in the families from third world. However, the families in developed nations if rearing contradictions at home may face these dangers.

My mind kept on dwelling on voluminous contradictions in the life of a common man. How can an educated person marry an uneducated girl? How are the women of a middle class urban society forced to live a miserable life in a village between 4 o’clock in the morning to 12 o’clock in the night? How did the people were taught about the ‘cultural richness’ or ‘sound culture’? Does living in scarcity, indicates a sound culture?

How to spread the message of good living and sound culture in such a vast and contradictory population of South Asia in general and India in particular? You force your children to study English and modernity on one hand and on the other hand you ensure, they learn poverty, deprivation, scarcity and misery. What do we want from a child of nine? Is it not a criminal offence to force your nine-year old son or daughter in such a ‘contradictory microwave oven’? The contradictions of life narrated here are not less than an oven.

The life of the individual is full of contradictions. A person puts himself in such a critical contradiction and makes his own life miserable. Over and above, it is a heinous crime to expect small children to learn English, modern things and old culture simultaneously. It is too much for the individual to cope with the demand from two extremes. It is a crime to expect from a wife to be homely, educated, submissive and modern as well. It is too much a contradiction to have a modern life and keep the old traditions intact.

The common people with minor education and resources are accepting these contradictions in day to day life irrespective of location in the world. But the same things are not observed in a high class family or society. That’s how Rajiv Gandhi married an Italian; Imran Khan, former Cricket Captain, married a Jew; Shahrukh married Gauri, a Hindu girl etc. Examples are plenty, leaving normal middle class people to suffer indefinitely. Is it not a ‘contradictory microwave oven’?

Contradiction has become lately a part of human society. India, Pakistan, Bangladesh, South Korea, Sri Lanka or rather the whole of the Asian region and the whole world of miserable people are the burning examples of these contradictions. Almost 95% of people are badly or dangerously involved in these contradictions. Everyday, they live life in those contradictions. Even the families who have migrated to USA or other European nations are forced to live life with these contradictions. And these contradictions become incubators of suicidal human bomb.
There is no clarity available to them in society. Every person takes various examples of whatever is available and gets some dose of contradictions in her life. These contradictions are prevalent in society in the name of cultural richness, heritage, modernity, broad thinking or vision. A normal human being is not in a position to understand or come out of these contradictions. And in these contradictions, people generate aspirations or so called fatal aspirations.

In these contradictions, I personally feel that Osama or Cho can grow any time, anywhere and at any place. Any family who are forcing these contradictions on their family members may suffer the way Cho family is feeling miserable today. The growth of Osama or Cho is nothing but extreme mis-utilization of magnificent technologies. Earlier governments were stopping Fashion TV to bring moral in the society but when Cho is shown on TV day and night who blocks the channels? No one. When 12 year old boy is shown brutally killing throat of a man on TV, who is blocking that from our children? Various websites are available on 24X7 basis to make a person religious fanatic and hard core nationalist. I feel our families, our children and our youth all are under threat unless we unlearn … and unlearn immediately.

We have to unlearn deprivation fast to ensure that our children do not fall pray of killers on net.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Unlearn Saris To Learn Skirt!!

India has come a long way. Religious democracy has played a major role to shape the destiny of the country. It is not very difficult to analyze the major causes of the change. It is not very difficult to find the reason for the growth of few individuals. It is simple but hard to discuss. It is equally hard to follow. But fortunately, recent changes have acted like serious catalytic affect.

A sincere observation reveals the cause of slow growth in society. The majority have remained obsessed with the old and conservative traditions at the cost of their own growth. These traditions have coolly kept them backward. These traditions have worked as a biggest obstacle in their ride to success. The leaders, rulers and intellectuals have always exploited these weaknesses of human nature to keep the majority in deprived and helpless condition. But, now they should not do anymore for the sake of their own achievements.

People in general have not been able to understand the hidden agenda of many of our well recognized leaders. People have fallen in their trap. People have remained deprived. Today, when information and opportunities have paved the way for commoners, the prospects of growth have become brighter. But, individuals who wants to grow has to understand the basic needs of growth.

One such need is to change the dress code. Long back when I was doing engineering college, I remember the dress code given for girl students. The dress code was pant-shirt, salwar-kurta or skirt-top etc. Sari, a traditional dress for majority of Indian ladies was not allowed. Shall we unlearn ‘Sari’?

Why talk about college, I have observed that even school children have dress code of skirt-top at most of the places. These girls use this dress code for years. They must be getting attached to these dresses. Psychologically, it must be difficult to change the dress at every stage. The girls are put in a situation where they are conditioned to encounter unlearning on regular basis. But, surprisingly, unlearning forced on these helpless girls make them deprived. The unlearning forced on them make dependent. Sari is one such example blatant enough to be seen by everyone but hardly ever sensed to be recognized its negative impact because of traditional attachments.

In contradictions, all these girls are always forced to wear sari in pretext of traditions. This is a big contradiction in society. Girls are always made a scapegoat for changes. Why should a grille be forced to so many changes in one life? Why?

If a simple survey is done on dress code, anybody can find that sari is the dress for deprived, dependent and conservative ladies. The ladies who are convinced to accept saris as dress will be mostly house-wives, generally semi-illiterate, highly conservatives, deprived and economically dependent on male counterparts. The independent and forward looking ladies can be found at working places like call centers, BPOs, banks, airplanes etc. or in five star hotels for parties, conferences etc or educational institutes as teachers, student etc and so on. All these forward looking ladies can be found in modern dresses.

Sari has lost its significance to exist in vibrant, dynamic and progressive society like Burqua. Recently, in one of the center page article in Times of India, Shashi Tharoor appealed to the women of India to save sari from a sorry fate. I am unable to understand the logic of these appeals. Why Shashi should appeal to women to remain backward and dependent? Why as an intellectual is he attaching modern dresses as western dress? Why do we attaché anything progress and good to western values? Are we have our birthright to born backward and die backward? Why Shashi should teach our ladies to be in conservative attire? It is a fatal aspiration.

If you have to grow, prosper and succeed, you have to unlearn sari, you have to accept modern dresses. You have to unlearn that Sari is Indian and modern dresses are western. Sari might be a good dress when you were in village without much external travel, work or pressure. Sari was good for women who used to be a display material for family. Sari is not good for women who are the bread earner, executives and person who drive progress and economy. Shashi must stop communicating responsibility to save sari on the shoulder of growing and struggling girls and ladies who want to grow. Shashi must stop convincing male to force their female to dress sari. Sari must go like Japanese kimono as he said in his own article.

The things which are vanishing in a slow manner, Indian intelligentsias should never preach general people to protect them. If villages have to go, why should farmers is preached not to leave villages? Why should menial and deprived people be preached not to march to the cities? Why should illiterate and deprived children be forced to study regional languages? All these questions are related to the drawback of Indian media, leaders and intelligentsias. They need to be conscious of what they preach others.

Sari must vanish to bring prosperity to this land. Women should not be unnecessarily taught wrong things. Women have also the privilege to be independent and growing.

Take Hard Decision in Lighter Moment!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Dedication To Hidden Millions

  DEDICATION

Poverty is a gift for most human beings since the evolution of civilization. Success and achievement are the paradigm of the selected few in society. Reaching to the top has been a gifted asset from ancestors for people belonging to the most advanced and educated society of human history. People have become elected Presidents, Prime Ministers, Entrepreneurs, Heroes, Artists, Defence Chiefs, Professionals and many more because of the assets inherited from the ancestors. Millions of high calibres human remain untouched in the dark tunnel of sincerity and hard work. Nobody encourages them for the benefit of even themselves. Today when a vast area of civilization on earth is on the verge of tasting the fruit of becoming developed, it is very-very difficult to ignore them.

Will modern technologies create new opportunities for those hidden millions?

All my writings are dedicated to those hidden millions!

Enjoy Unlearning!

Learning English - A Global Necessity

Wisdom is a scarce material. I am of the firm belief that there is only one language which can provide you a taste of wisdom in today’s world. Especially in 21st century, if even a part of Ray Kurzweil’s law which claims to be generalized version of Moor’s law becomes true then every educated person irrespective of his or her profession has problem without English.

By 2010, this world will be forced to unlearn what have been pretty good till 20th century. At the same time, people will have to learn things which will not be available in regional languages. The updated knowledge and wisdom will not be available in any language other than English. This is a caution to all the non-English speaking people across the world.

The governments of almost all the developing countries are suffering from ego and power politics. They fear to lose their chair to go against the comfort zone of the people. As life has its own hardship; there is hardly any growth or success in comfort zone. People have to come out of that comfort zone and march into new domain to enjoy the pleasure of development. Why governments fail to react in right direction?

Recently, just last month, I wrote a blog regarding extinctions of regional languages titled “Politics of Regional Languages” on 8 Jan 2007. I understand that people are very emotional and sentimental about their regional language that too in India. They can not believe the fact that it can ever extinct easily. Wherever, they go, they always look for regional people to satisfy ego. And then they shamelessly do regionalism to keep themselves in comfort zone. They still feel proud to talk in regional languages even in the international conventions with global people. Regional language is the biggest sentimental issue of almost every rising individual.

The emotions work well for those who have already built the empire to enjoy life. But think of many ever energetic and dynamic courageous youth who have capability to do miracles but unable to find knowledge and wisdom in the regional language. I always feel handicap of my loss of initial 20-25 years of my life. What is the benefit of cursing life at the age of 30s or 40s if you are unable to take corrective action during teenage? Above 40s, life already becomes a sad story.

Coming to the rescue of millions of children deprived of studying English in schools, the Knowledge Commission has recommended teaching of the language as a compulsory subject from class I across the country. Will country implement these bold but necessary steps to reduce digital divide?

As I have always pointed out the integrity factor of Sam Pitroda to ensure few of the forced unlearning process in society. He had been to US for long time. Today, Indians are reaping the benefits of the brain drain of 60s and 70s through Pitroda’s recommendations. We must be thankful to US that such brains were preserved to be useful at later age. Can we forget the development of Bangalore or Hydrabad? Common Indians are reaping the benefits.

There is a need to enforce unlearning to fetch the benefit of growth for all. The entrepreneur, executives and managers working in BPOs, Call Centers and IT industry will immediately appreciate the necessity of this step. Sam Pitroda rightly says, “Starting now, English would help us build an inclusive society and transform India into a knowledge society.”

Presently, only nine of the 28 states and three Union territories in India have introduced English as compulsory subject from Class I. This kind of severe discrimination to divide the people exists in Indian sub-continent without a protest from any social activist. Is there any surprise if poor remains deprived and Indian entrepreneurs are unable to get educated English speaking youth to run their outsourcing companies? How people get time to fight for unnecessary issue like racial discrimination not for learning English?

Sam Pitroda said, “Even now, no more than 1% of our people use English as a second language, let alone a first language.” This statement means that the country economy is booming only on less than 1% people. Rest of the population is electing conservative leaders and parties to rule them. What a tremendous potential to this sleeping country? Racial discrimination is being done here in India with the less privileged people.

I get surprised when people do business just by teaching English language. The books on learning English become famous. All these happen in a country which has been ruled by British for more than 400 years. Is it such a big problem to understand wisdom?
Now, the problems emerge for all those who are successfully running Institute just for teaching English. They will have to look for alternative professions. The people who are doing good business in regional languages will have to close their shops. The poor and deprived can not be easily fooled by the mediocre on the name of foreign language.

“English should also be used to teach some non-language, content subjects, starting from Class III in schools,” the Commission has said. What a forced unlearning to a civilized society? But it is mandatory to bring prosperity. It is a government responsibility to force on people to unlearn things which are not required through such steps. Now, India should take some steps to implement these changes suggested by the Commission.

Since last few years, one crucial comparative advantage enjoyed by India as opposed to its rising neighbour China has been relatively widespread presence of English-speaking people. This advantage will not be there for long unless Indian government takes some drastic steps. The recommendations of knowledge commission provide wisdom to Indian government. But, let us see how far government reacts on wisdom? In the absence of English, India will be at disadvantage and Indians will be at loss.

Now, the latest craze is American English. India must move towards American English for wide acceptance. 'Gotcha! So you gonna chicken out, brotha? I ain’t know nothin’. These are common talk in Malls across Metro cities. I receive from friends – Yup dude, you’re bang on! D’oh…” These are the American way and Indians of Gen Y loving it. With Indian students going to the US in bulk, the American accent will surely plague India. All modern equipments and job assignments along with latest technologies, websites and wisdom come from US only. There is no other way.

Now thanks to ex-IBM professional Jean Paul Nerrihre advised us to try “Globish” instead of tough English. His famous book “Don’t Speak English” already became famous and advises us to learn language called Globish meaning global English. This involves a vocabulary limited to 1500 words, short sentences, basic syntax and extensive hand gestures to get the point across. What a different way to become global. Try it!

So there are plenty of opportunities. No society can prosper on old traditions, ethos and even languages. Government which is busy in opening schools based on religion and region to ensure discriminations to fulfill its desire to rule on deprived people will find difficult to accept the recommendation by Knowledge Commission. How far can you ban the integrated networked people across the world by banning on AXN or issuing warning to TV channels? People have the power to reach to the real knowledge and wisdom. Networked people sitting in front of their screen will make a difference.

Government may not generate courage to implement such policy immediately but certainly conscious people should understand this. That is what I always emphasize.

So let us unlearn regional language and regional feeling. Let us get detached from regional attachments. Learn the language which keeps you ahead for the years to come. Select a book which talks about future rather than glorify the past. Read the blogs which keeps you ahead. Learn the language in which tomorrow’s wisdom will be typed and printed.

Be global, learn global language and act global.
Enjoy Unlearning!

Why Are We Rich and Unhappy?

Becoming rich is one thing but getting happiness is entirely different ball game. World economy is growing but not happiness. People are becoming better off but feeling worse. This is a very common problem. It has always been a challenge to find the exact reason. The reasons are being searched in this article.

Once upon a time, the results of market capitalism was generally agreed to make people better off. Nowadays that is not clear. A number of economists and politicians think that it ought to be doing something else: making people happy, says The Economist in an article titled Happiness (and how to measure it).

I as a technocrat feel that the reasons of happiness can not be easily traced by economist, politicians or other professionals. Earlier technologies and inventions were not impacting the society in a big way at one time. But, the inventions of last few decades have changed these old beliefs. The changes which have taken place around the world in last few decades are mainly due to electronics and Information Technology. So, the reasons of happiness can only be found by some technocrats who have seen the growth of electronics and IT. The world will have to accept this new dimension.

Growth Charts

With an annual growth rate of 3.2% per head since 2000, the world economy is heading towards notching its best decade ever. So, in this situation, 6 billion people of the world will have to face a different world order. The changes are new. The resources available are different. The accessibility is different. The connectivity is different. The borders, languages and regions are becoming irrelevant. The quests and means to find job, earning money and making social circles are changing.

Now David Cameron, the latest leader of Britain’s once rather materialistic Conservative Party, has espoused the notion of general well-being (GWB) as an alternative to GDP. In the US, meanwhile, inequality, over-work and other hidden costs of prosperity were discussed in mid-term elections. In India on the name of common man, government tries to find the reasons why prosperity not spreading widely. The developing world is struggling to provide basic amenities. The reasons of finding happiness amidst prosperity remain a burning issue.

There has always been a good discussion among the people of developing world to talk about the unhappiness of the people of developed world. People again got a point when a survey data reveals that affluent countries have not got much happier as they have grown richer. The same thing may happen or is already happening even in developing countries. Luxuries have become the necessity. Management of richness remains a challenge. In addition, it remains a challenge to bring the masses what elites have always enjoyed. Once, you get the most starved things take for granted. The process is unending. In all these different situations, the questions remain that how to achieve happiness?

In Search of Happiness

In my point of view, happiness becomes very complex in the midst of growth. As growth becomes exponential, the situation becomes explosive. In these circumstances, there is a need to look at things differently. That is what I am going to do here in this article.

There are various books on human psychology and managerial philosophy. There are plenty of write-ups on how to learn the important characteristics which all successful people possess or are supposed to possess. There are books on thinking, dreaming, meditation, yoga and so on ….there are volumes written on these aspects of human activities and personalities. But are there any books written on what you need not do. What you should not learn? What you should not work on? There is hardly any research on these aspects of human complexities to understand what you are supposed to UNLEARN if you want to belong to the category of successful and happy people?

Everybody talks about one or other trait to be developed. How to acquire characteristics of successful people? How to learn lessons from the success? People join various institutes to learn these traits. There are many teachers or so-called preachers who are willing to enhance your capabilities to learn more and learn fast. They are ready to teach you some more human traits besides what you already have. They are also ready to tell you what are the most necessary qualities that you lack. They teach you how to develop positive attitudes. They do not feel shy in telling that the only thing you ever lacked in life is a positive attitude. She becomes a big failure in spite of her great learning. How the happiness will emerge amidst lacking?

Even with the sharp rise in social and economic growth in the poorest parts of civilization, the growth has never been homogeneous; rather, a huge benefit has gone to few individuals or families and meager benefits to the remaining individuals and societies. Is it any surprise if the world’s 500 richest people have as much wealth as the poorest three billion put together? Even in the developed nations, if the changes are not monitored on a regular and constructive basis, the society or even the country could suffer and would suffer more in future. Such suffering has occurred at the individual level. This has been witnessed in the life of an organization. This is being observed in the nation build-up. Fast changes taking place in various aspects around the world have to be integrated into our policymaking process to harness the benefit for the human being, organization and nation. That is what Microsoft did. In the 1997, in the first CEO summit, they declared the objective for the next ten years as ‘friction free-capitalism’, in the 2006; they changed to ‘friction free-innovation’. Individual, society, organization or even nations have to keep ‘unlearning on a regular basis’ to reap the benefit of civilization.

Unlearning Past to Achieve Happiness in Present

Learning is not at all a solution but many a time, these are the big problems, because you will have to unlearn, whatever you have learnt, if it is not good for your future. Unlearning will be more difficult than learning. But you do not have any choice. You will be forced to Unlearn. So Stop Learning, Rather UNLEARN or LEARN TO UNLEARN before it is too late to unlearn. It is time to concentrate and know more about your Unlearn Quotient (UQ). (UQ is based on the critical factors. These factors work as a theory of human growth.)

Your UQ will take you ahead more than others. Your UQ will pave the way for your better future. Your UQ will reduce the contradictions and ambiguities of your life. Your UQ will show you the path to achieve next generation of time management. Your UQ will be the measurement of your happiness.

The beginning of the 20th century was the year when the major emphasis was on learning, while by the end of the century, the year could be defined as ‘How fast and how much can you learn’. But the 21st century has started with the critical need of unlearning. The years could well be defined as ‘How fast can you unlearn’. Unlearn was not found in earlier dictionaries, however in the recent ones, it has been explained and elaborated on in detail. As per Encarta, Unlearn means discard something previously learnt like an old habits, try to forget, put out of one’s memory or knowledge. Oxford English Dictionary writes, Unlearn - verb - aim to discard (something learned) from one’s memory. Cambridge Advanced Learner’s Dictionary defines it very suitably to meet the present day requirement of understanding unlearn. It says that unlearn is to make an effort to forget your usual way of doing something so that you can learn a new and something better way.

19th century - Limited Learning
20th century - More Learning
21st century - Unlearning

Learning and Unlearning Dilemmas!

I define unlearning as an extension of learning. Unlearning means to remove, discard, forget, and leave undesirable things from minds. Unlearning means keeping mind free from unwanted information, deleting irrelevant data from memory and having more free space in minds for future thinking. Unlearn is the process of removing something from your priority list of doing things. Unlearn is the way or path to move from self-defeating methods of performing something to different methods, leading to the road of success. Unlearn is the method to prepare a list of parameters to discard from life for a better life. Unlearn is the preparation of futurist steps for a successful life. Unlearn is the challenging age old traditions and customs which are keeping a human being away from even basic amenities. Like you put up efforts to learn something good, you need to put efforts to unlearn something bad. Learning can be done through various methods, similarly unlearning can also be done through some other methods. It is important for all of us to learn more about unlearn to live a better life in the 21st century.
Irrespective of the country or place, individuals will have to unlearn to have more happiness in life. There are few factors which are essential to achieve the tough task of happiness.

Theory of Human Happiness

The necessity of unlearning is basically to satisfy the various needs of human beings. However it is necessary to know seven critical factors (SCF) to achieve the objectives. I have personally experienced and implemented these factors since the last thirty years. With critical observation of self, family, developing society, reading and seeing the developed and developed world, I have concluded that these seven critical factors as ‘theory of human happiness’. In the first instance, the factors may not appear as critical as any postulate in the development of scientific theory, but once critical analysis is done then the importance and effectiveness can be understood and appreciated. The seven critical factors are -

1. Thinking and Action – In search of truth. How could you think and act correctly? Is it easy to find truth?
2. Aspirations – Goal of life! Are you capable enough to decide about your goal?
3. Sex – Human Relationship. Relationships are the most complicated aspects of human growth. Sex is at the core of all the human relationships.
4. God – Ethics and Behaviour. God makes you a gentleman or gentlewoman otherwise you remain a demon. Understanding God is essential for human growth.
5. Parents – As you sow so you reap. Parents are responsible to sow a seed of growth. Are you sure of your correct seed for growth?
6. God Father – Sense of security. Th human is a fearful creature. Always look for a godfather for your growth.
7. Wisdom Domain – Knowledge Source! Life without knowledge is hell. Create wisdom domain (WD) in this world of Knowledge Process Outsourcing (KPO).

The details of all these seven critical factors have to be monitored on regular basis. It is important to know that how these are keeping the human progress restricted. Once these critical issues are clear, we would be in a better position to understand and analyze happiness.

No amount of money or position can make us happy. Life needs few basic things for smooth journey. Unlearning has potential to bring normalcy and contentment back to anybody’s life.
Enjoy Unlearning!

Politics of Dying Regional Languages

I am fortunate to have sufficient education to understand the growth contradictions of society. Especially, when I am trying to find the reasons for individual development, my education and experience helps me to look at the problems differently. I am convinced about the fact that the regional language plays a very significant role in our overall behaviour, relationship, habit and personality. It is not very difficult to find the people with regional accent at any platform in India. But these regional languages have no future in global village. Let us study why regional languages have no future? We will look into different aspects like education pattern, class struggles, professional options, and unification of languages.

Changed Education Trend

“I have never allowed my schooling to interfere with my education,” said Mark Twain, commenting on the lack of fun in learning in schools. Today with all the multimedia skill sets, you need a different kind of education. Life is fun and education must be focused on enhancing fun rather than making a school or education a prison. The depth of any subject you choose has increased tremendously. You as a human cannot go on learning to enhance your capabilities for a better life. There is no end of information or even knowledge to acquire. Today, you need to get educated to have a good and enjoyable life. Schooling is becoming a thing of the past. Now-a-days, people are forced to talk about unschooling. The educated and learned parents are not concentrating on course, syllabus or school. They are concentrating on other human or environmental activities.

School children need not go to library to search for books all the time. Sitting comfortably at one place at home, café or even a shopping mall she can access complete list of libraries at just one click of the mouse. And whole set of encyclopedias are available at a much cheaper price. It is not necessary that she spends Rs. 40,000 to 50,000 to have the entire set of Encyclopedia Britannica at her premises; she can just spend Rs. 1000 approximately and have the original Britannica displayed on the computer monitor. Internet and other media have made knowledge accessible at your finger-tips at a much lower cost. Children can have access to information so fast and easily as never before in history. But the only constraint is the language.

Class Struggle and Language

We must understand the age old class struggle to evaluate the importance of language. Today, the whole of Indian continent has one of the biggest enemies of development and it is its regional languages. People are killing each other. Leaders in Assam, Maharastra or Karnataka are doing politics over it. People are dying for language affections. Language is dividing the networked environment developed by the growth of Information technology and telecommunication. This division has engulfed every walk of life. This division can be seen in politics, society and even in corporate world.

The struggle of class is not exclusive to Indian environment. Even US is discussing this issue on regular basis. Oprah Winfrey show is a typical example. She does not hesitate to discuss on latest issues disturbing people like class, language, sex, relationship and so on. In one of the show on class, she discussed that how people of different class can be categorized even the way they speak English. English is a global language and people have to understand this. In India, this discussion is very old but still not matured. Today I would like to remind all my friends who are religiously attached to their regional languages to get detached immediately to have a better and successful future. Language is the biggest hurdle in your global outlook.

For more information on Oprah Show, you can go to the website as below

http://www2.oprah.com/tows/slide/200604/20060421/slide_20060421_350_102.jhtml

The main question comes, is anybody interested to fall behind and see others moving ahead? I do not think anyone intentionally would like to do it unless compelled by the situations. Let us create a situation where we do not creep at later stage of our life.

Professional Options

The horizon of professions has altered drastically. The technological and economic changes have made profession a new domain altogether. Few years ago when beauty shops came in the limelight hardly anybody had an idea that it would emerge to be such a big profession. Today it has matured. Many ladies and gents are working in these shops. Similarly, other professions like modeling, stewardship, journalism, fashion designing, entrepreneurship, catering and hospitality management, tourism jobs, services industries and so on have emerged. The sudden emergence of call centers, BPOs (Business Process Outsourcing) and other IT related services have changed the concept of working in society all across the world. These services have such manpower-intensive jobs with high financial stakes that it will almost delete the concept of the Gandhian philosophy of Charkha and Chakri. The requirements and search for jobs has to be done based on the latest craze and availability. The expertise of English language remains at the forefront in all these professions.

People cannot afford to rely on the old concept of government jobs or other conservative and conventional jobs. The new generation and the guardians of the new generation have to move from conservatism to look for better and progressive appointments. Today, organizations are not finding suitable educated people in cities. Jobs are moving to smaller towns and villages. Once, it reaches small towns and villages, the educated boys, girls, housewives, househusbands and parents will be forced to change the concept of job-search for their benefit and the benefit of the society. The unlearning of the old conventional jobs has to be done on a priority basis. With, this it brings the necessity of learning a global language to move ahead. It is not the question of getting the job today; it is a question of complete cultural shift.

Earlier, jobs were restricted to agriculture, law, engineering, medicine, management etc. The majority of the people were dependent on agriculture for their livelihood. But, now people will move to cities to get the basic facilities. As per, United Nations estimate, by 2030, 50% of the human population will live in cities. The global language will play its role in a new emerging society.

Trying to get government jobs is the old concept now. Few educated people could get government jobs. Very few will join the loss-making public sectors to have secure jobs. Gone are those days in this fast developing professional environment. The concepts of hard work and joining a profit making company have evolved. The open economy and market has given freedom to join multinationals. It has given freedom to select professions. People change professions like their clothes. Companies are starved of people. People have a luxury of choices. The changes have to be felt, realized, soaked, conceived and understood. Whoever has done this, unlearned the old trends and fears, is enjoying the fruits of growth. The fresh IIM graduates are on auction like the eligible grooms of Andhra Pradesh. Be proactive and chose the professions of the time.

English Has No Alternative

In a recent report, it became clear that regional languages have no future. Many languages are dying out because of population movements, cultural oppressions, wars and economic disasters. Experts say as many as half of the world’s 6,900 languages are endangered. In the name of Olympic Games even China is quietly learning English to join the global community.
In the 1970s and 1980s, there was a huge discussion in all the institutions across India whether we should study English or not. Even today, there is great confusion prevailing in India in particular and other developing nations in general. The people have been given a dose of nationalism in terms of languages. But how far is it advantageous? Is it in a position to give you comfort of knowledge? Is it giving you a better life?

You join any professional Institute; you are forced to study in English. There are hardly any good books available in other languages. All the high level professional books are available in English. There is a tremendous difference in the availability of professional books in English and any other language. The local languages are left for the utilization of local ‘tribes’ only, not for the global person. There was a time when there was a requirement of less information and that too in a different mode like books or drawing or painting or any art medium; but, today when you surf the net for the ocean of information, you are forced to learn, think and act globally. You can not access global information in regional language. The people across the globe are feeling the handicap of being attached to regional languages. Many have started cursing their parents and teachers for the failure. People have started questioning the governmental indecisiveness to implement global languages in school. Karnataka is a typical example of this. Narayana Murthy has already questioned the apathy of governments in state and center. A digital divide starts from regional languages. People are being forced to remain deprived.

Language Unification

The advent of technology has forced humanity to think about the concept of unification of languages. Even the famous Nobel Laureate, Rabindra Nath Tagore, who wrote many poems and prose in Bengali, a local regional language of India, was forced to learn and translate his own writings in English to get a wider audience and recognition, leading to the Nobel Prize for literature in 1913.

The advent of the computer has given a beautiful tool to humanity. If this intelligent machine is to be utilized then in the years to come, the people have to learn fewer languages. The development of an Operating System is a very difficult and tricky proposal. Once it has been developed and matured in approximately a decade’s time, it may be very difficult to develop with those rich features in any other languages. The availability of www.google.com, yahoo.com, hotmail.com, indiatimes.com and so on would ensure some kind of unification in the development and spread of languages in the years to come. As the use and spread of mobile devices increase, more unification of languages will be forced upon the human being. When good professional books were not produced in the last century even with the high level printing technology, is there any reason to believe that, operating systems or other software would be produced in any regional languages?

There was a time when people from South India used to fight against the forceful imposition of Hindi on them. The people from North used to get emotional about the language issues. Schools, colleges and institutions had the tremendous task of keeping a balance between the propagation and utilization of different languages. Now the situation has to converge. Language unification should be taken as an international mission to avoid the gaps between different people and to spread a global culture in this world. The spread of one language will put less pressure on students to learn and master it. People will be able to concentrate on more fruitful work for humanity rather than fighting over languages. We must learn from the statement of the famous thinker, Edward de Bono, who says, ‘Language has been a most important step in human evolution. Language is now the biggest barrier to further evolution.’ He writes further in his famous site http://www.edwarddebono.com that language is an encyclopedia of ignorance. Politicians who send their children to Harvard or Boston for higher studies and do politics over Hindi or other regional languages at their native place should not be able to make a fool of large sections of people.

It was the far sighted vision of American policy makers to accept English as national language after British left their land. The two centuries of magnificent development is the result of this policy. People are not killing or dying based on languages, they are focusing on development and better lifestyle. The result of learning English is so obvious, US is able to create Bill Gates and Stephen Covey.

Today, there is no other option than to unlearn regional languages. People need to unlearn their attachments to regional languages. People must keep themselves away from regional feelings. To have global access, global opportunities, global success and so on people need to be a global citizen with the ability to speak, read and write in global language.
Enjoy Unlearning!

Age Old Game - Blame Game to Win Sympathy

Blame Game – Is west responsible for east misery?

If East has not exploited Industrial Revolution, leadership of developing countries should look internally. Why only leadership, even the intelligentsia’s mis-information creates contradictions in the growth of civilization. The right information is not reaching to right people at right time.

The growth of electronics industries remained untapped by the developing world. The semi-automatic and automatic machines based on the electronics circuitry were never exploited for the benefit of the people of developing world. The inventions remain with west. The products like Intel or Microsoft were used by the people all over the world. The benefit certainly went to the inventor and that is west.

Information technology especially services part could develop because of its technological depth. In this field, logic and conventional wisdom did not work. It became difficult for the governments of developing world to put hurdle. Now, governments of few countries from East have shown remarkable shift from the traditional wisdom to grab the opportunities. However, many countries lacked behind miserably. Just take the example of very successful venture of an IT company called Infosys. After 23 years of long struggle, Infosys could make $2 billion; while on the other hand, Bill Gates alone earns around $20 billion every year.

The reason appears to me quite simple. The leaders and media from developing countries are concentrating on trivial issues rather than focusing on innovation. People talk about innovation but they hardly have knowledge, courage and wisdom to understand and accept innovation.

Just take the example of Indian Prime Minister. He is supposed to be one of the most educated PM of recent past. He knows economy, he is aware about growth requirements; he is concerned about India’s poor, but see the scarcity of wisdom in his speeches. Recently, he is again using the very old game of east to blame west for poor shows.

Manmohan uses the act of blaming and begging simultaneously when he says, “West’s green drive can’t be at poor world’s cost”. He further says, “The new environmentally-friendly technologies being developed must be shared and made available to all of us so that the planet is saved”. India should take some steps to achieve development. As a Prime Minister, he must try to formulate the plan of the nation to achieve these objectives rather than blaming West.

Manmohan Singh said that developed industrial economies must realise that they should alter their consumption patterns so that so few do not draw upon so much of the Earth’s resources. There has been a set pattern of the leaders of developing world in blaming the developed people to counsel the citizens. The statement given by the rime Minister could be same what Jawaharlal Nehru would have talked in 50s or Indira Gandhi talked in 70s or 80s and then Rajiv talked in 80s. The country should look inward to find the reasons. Even in India, there is so much difference between states. Can Jalandhar be ready to reduce Heart hospitals to redistribute resources to other not so developed part of the country? The answer can be big no. Anybody who has developed after lot of struggles and efforts would not like to simply give away resources. Even if rich people give resource, what is the guarantee that it will reach to poor. Even Oprah Winfrey could not get that assurance, how will others get?

Why Prime Minister wastes time in talking like this. In whole of his speech, he has hardly touched the reasons of India’s dismal growth in science R&D in last decade. When there has been 100% increase in science R&D in China, there has been only 3% in India. Science in India is in shambles. Prime Minister should have intimated the country about the proposals submitted by SA Mashelkar before retiring from the post. There is absolutely no need to keep the country in dark on our failure. Why should we blame others?

The other minister while addressing the fifth Pravasi Bhartiya Diwas said, “We need investments in areas like infrastructure, agriculture, education, drinking water and health.” What a statement by a cabinet minister? What Indian government is doing? The government is unable to take care of any area. In education, they can do only reservations. He further says, “It is essential that the states lagging behind carry out needed reforms so that they can attract investments which are important for growth and poverty alleviation.” My point is that when reforms are needed for poverty alleviation, why central government is working on Rural Employment Scheme? Why not reforms? Why we are not concentrating on sorting out the problems of land acquisition for SEZ which is so necessary for growth?

There are many heads and leaders who need to clarify their speeches to make it more relevant to well informed society. The leaders appear ignorant. They show their lack of vision. They are unable to appreciate the future need of the nation. They are unable to see the changed world order. They are unable to comprehend the future world order.
Enjoy Unlearning!

Follow Western Cultures

“More and more couples are indulging in anything from full-bodied hugs to full-on kisses in the public eye. And no one scandalizes any more. The masses seem to have embraced public display of affection whole-heartedly.” wrote Times Life.

I wrote a book in 2005. National fame editor did editing of the book. She has also edited the recent book on "Governance" authored by Mr. Jagmohan, Former Cabinet Minister of Government of India. She said that the western life style I am predicting is not going to happen in India at least for few decades. I fought with her to maintain my conclusions that there is no way and the people have to follow western life style. It has started happening and will catch up soon. I am happy that within a year I see, read and hear about these things. It is happening. It is happening within a year.

PDA is becoming famous in India. It is not an electronic device but it is public display of affection (PDA). Even rickshaw drivers in the cities like Mumbai, Delhi , Pune and Bangalore are accepting the changes. If Hrithik and Aishwarya can kiss why not normal person on road?

Indians are following western life style. However Indian elders, thinkers, media people, politicians, Bollywood experts and religious gurus are trying to tell that following western life style is disastrous for the people of developing world. But I think all these people are either wrong or too selfish in their predictions. There is nothing wrong in following western life style. What is wrong in this? I am convinced and have been telling since beginning. Is there any other life style for growing human beings to follow?

Why India, all the people of developing world have to follow the same - Western life style. There is no other life style in this world which need any attention forget about following. Russia and China have already followed the toe of US. They are not losing any opportunity to come closer to American counterparts. I have invariably explained in all my previous blogs regarding these dilemmas.

Can any literate or conscious person try to think of following Muslim life style with Quran, Mosque or Burqua? Absolutely not, is there anything worth to be talked about Iran, Iraq or Bangladesh? There is nothing to be even looked at. There is no question of following these medieval cultures and traditions. People can only follow such crippled culture in duress.

West has struggled to grow. They have grown to present level after sincerely working for last more than 200 years after fighting two world wars. They have taken long time to understand and certify the present life style. The people who are growing today have advantages of these western experiences.

The time is short to learn and unlearn. But, it is not difficult. When we are getting used to throw one old model of mobile for new one every year, there should not be any hardship in forgetting the old cultures and traditions to give way to the new one. This will be the advantageous for all. People sitting on network from west will be doubly happy to give helping hand and juicy lips. People all across the world will be able to enjoy the fruit of growth of 21st century. Enjoy!!
Enjoy Unlearning!

Unlearn: Age Old Game - Blame Game

Unlearn: Age Old Game - Blame Game
Enjoy Unlearning!

Epochal Shift - 6000 Years After Urban Centres Emerged

Epochal Shift - 6000 years after urban centers emerged. This population shift will lead to a new kind of city - "Hyper cities".
At times, what I feel that policy makers have significant problems in understanding data. Data itself is never clear unless we have sufficient ‘knowledge’ to understand this. Especially in Indian scenario, I can say with guarantee that this problem is very common. We have been very poor to appreciate the data properly.
One United Nations estimate says that urban population is expected to overtake the rural population by August 16, 2008. I remember predicting similar ideas in my book “Unlearn Before U-learn” written around a year ago with the detailed justifications which I observed to be very obvious one. The matter does not end here. By 2030, two third of humanity will live in cities. Keeping these changes and statistics in mind, I had advised my rural friends to unlearn village life. The data are becoming true with reality.
Civilization has witnessed tremendous changes in almost every aspect including GDP and employment. There have been tremendous changes in different sectors in the last few decades and these are going to change further impacting transactions. Invariably, there is a large difference in the understanding of facts by policy makers. This results in wrong policy decisions. They are unable to give emphasis to correct approaches. This can be seen in the following example. There are three major sectors –
(a) Primary Sector – Agriculture

(b) Secondary Sector – Industries

(c) Tertiary Sectors – Services including knowledge, information and value-added. This also includes innovative knowledge intensive products/services.

Figure:- EFFECT FROM DIFFERENT SECTORS (In %)

Sectors/Year
1979 2004 2020
GDP Contribution
Agriculture
39 22 10
Industry
24 27 30
Services
37 51 60
Employment Generation

Agriculture
64 54 44
Industry
16 19 21
Services
20 27 35

(courtesy www.presidentofindia.nic.in)

As technology leads to non-linear business growth, the predicted value for the year 2020 may not be totally correct. I feel that it will be different because of many social compulsions. Even if the prediction is assumed to be correct, there is a drastic need to change the orientation of thinking because of the following illustrated reasons–

1. As the agriculture contribution is going to be less than 10% of the overall GDP of the country, the agriculture sector needs to be made attractive, competitive and friendly. Accordingly, the priorities of the planner and thinker have to change.
2. As employment from the agricultural sector is going down drastically from 64% to 44%, the majority should move from conventional locations and profession to new opportunities in value-added services for innovation and knowledge-intensive products. Policy makers are afraid to accept the facts of this data.
3. The people working in the agricultural sector have been traditionally very conservative and rigid in their approach to life; they need to be encouraged to change their profession for the betterment of themselves and the country. They should never be given the consolation that their life-style will improve amidst deprivation.
4. The backward classes, scheduled castes and scheduled tribes, who have been predominantly left behind in the last few decades from being part of the economic growth or ‘India Shining’ and ‘Incredible India’ have to be educated and encouraged to move out off the frog well to harness growth of civilization with minor disturbances and dislocations. They should be educated, motivated and encouraged to move to towns and cities to take up better and well-earning professions with a dignified life. This is a sever diversion from the earlier concepts by the renowned thinkers of developing countries but this has to be adopted to avoid future catastrophes.
5. The Indian intelligentsia is still busy finding the strategy to bring down the scale of perpetuating rural migrations to big towns and cities in search of job opportunities which I believe is in total contradiction to the need of a developed society. We need to learn first and educate the others about the significant statistical changes which are taking place overthe last few decades. People must move out from village or smaller cities to the big cities. People must move to special economic zones (SEZ). Government must improve building infrastructure to support these movements. More planned SEZ is the need of the future.
6. IT and BPOs together earned India $12 Billion in 2003 and by 2012, it is expected to touch $148 Billion according to NASSCOM– National Associations of Software and Services Company. The number of people employed in the BPO sector will be over 200,000. This manpower will be available when the people move from conventional professions to value added services.
7. There is a tremendous scarcity of educated and semi-educated person in service sectors like call centres, BPOs, software sectors, R & Ds, manufacturing plants, etc. The recruiter needs to move to small towns and villages to appoint and train the poor, dedicated, sincere and hard working people for the benefit of this sector, irrespective of caste, creed or region.
8. The area where exploitation has been severe and no priorities have been given for growth, are more prone to attract the attention and demand of the new industries. Either resettlement plans in those neglected areas could be considered or people can be encouraged to move to planned colonies for better amenities and better work output for systematic growth.
9. In the last few decades, there are locations in India which have witnessed tremendous neglect from the planner to take care of the basic infrastructure like road, electricity and water etc. These are Northeast region, Bengal, Bihar, Orissa and Jammu & Kashmir. The situation is ripe enough to utilize for systematic growth of the new sectors. These areas have to be considered for future growth.
10. In the years to come, a large population will move from these neglected areas as mentioned above for a better life in Delhi, Maharashtra, Andhra Pradesh, Karnataka, Chennai etc. These movements will accrue many benefits for those neglected areas. They will reduce the burden on the land. The people who move out will get a better life. The remaining people will have more land to feed fewer stomachs. However, due to enhanced economical changes they will have to have a more sophisticated and systematic life. They will have to understand these changes and mould themselves accordingly. They will perforce have to unlearn all habits of so-called poor people.
11. The availability of basic amenities will broaden the living standards of large sections of the population. They will unlearn things faster to have a better and more dignified life.

Since the time, President of India APJ Abdul Kalam has talked and worked on PURA, I have my own predictions that these policies do not have future. These are the waste of government resources. We have to educate the people from village to move to cities to have a better and prosperous life. One side when President talks about big dreams on the other, he works on PURA to keep the poor deprived for life. Instead, government should join hands with private sectors to build a Special Economics Zones (SEZs) with basic infrastructure and employment opportunities for all.

The technological evolution will bring about the changes smoothly. The change practice has to be mastered by the population to harness the benefits of technology. There is a necessity of new thinking and ideas. Ideas should not be slaves of caste, region or religion. Ideas should not be the result of political compulsions. The ideas should not be the result of a selfish attitude. Ideas need to be rational, based on future prospects.
Enjoy Unlearning!

I am the Person of the Year 2006

I have been chosen as a Time magazine Person of the year on Saturday for the explosive growth and influence of user generated Internet content such as blogs, video-file sharing site YouTube and social network MySpace. I am privileged, excited and flattered.

I took premature retirement from normal government job at the peak of my career to join this bandwagon. I created blogsites. I wrote blogs. I created large number of friends on yahoo 360. I am fortunate to have 174 virtual friends on 360 and many more on other on-line sites today. They generated confidence in me. They showed purpose for my life. They brought ideas and motivated me. http://360.yahoo.com/kamekish

Based on the core issues of the theory of Unlearning, I have written a book, which is at final stage of getting published in India. However, when I wrote my book in 2005, I got first on line site lulu.com. When all the publishers in India refused to even speak to me on my project, the book is published on-line from Feb 2006 at www.lulu.com/content/231873/ . In the conclusion of this book, I have made ‘you’ as main constituent of this forthcoming growth and I feel that Time magazine has realised the power today. You are the Person of the year.

“For seizing the reins of the global media, for founding and framing the new digital democracy, for working for nothing and beating the pros at their own game, Time’s Person of the Year for 2006 is You,” the magazine Lev Grossman wrote.

How true each word is coming? Since last more than one year, I am writing blogs for nothing. I am spreading my messages without any preconceived results or expectations. I am trying to spread wisdom. Even if my relative, friends and colleagues wanted me to join a good job in some IT industry, I chose to write my views and spread democracy of knowledge and wisdom through blogs and different site. I found the power in you all. I am proud of you all.

I am thankful to the blogsite like Sulekha who made me star blogger and given me prestigious rank below 1000 and wrote my name in bloggers list. Sulekha made me featured blogger for its Current Affairs section where I wrote extensively on current burning issues. http://www.kamekish.sulekha.com . It is a great journey.

As I always feel, we need to share more information. We need to share our thinking with all like minded people to generate confidence in life. I thought, creating a group will be a good step. Yahoo provided me the option free of cost. http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iiuindia
It helped me to make me the Person of the Year 2006.

Wide Experience Pays

India is a vast country. I had been fortunate to visit all nooks and corners of this huge country in last 25 years. I have not only seen places, I have lived, experienced and analyzed. Even the book which I have written is the result of my conscious living of last 25-30 years. I feel that knowing this vast country is a challenge. I have met this challenge in the year of Information age. The technological tools have provided me instruments to steer the course of history.

I have worked on creation of godfather and wisdom domain. When, I receive different point of views, I feel that creating godfather and wisdom domain for self and for the benefit for all are coming true. The technological resources are providing us tool to achieve the tasks. Today when you and I am the person of the year, I generate more confidence to build a better and conscious society. You are the part of this consciousness.

In almost every Blog, I have written my views freely and without fear. I feel that there is no need to feel inadequate. You are power. You are the force of the coming change in society. You must feel complete. Be positive, learning or unlearning will come to you correctly. I have got continuous encouragements from my friends across the globe who made me feel that I was in a right direction.

I have written extensively with the hope that people are able to come out of daily ruts, frustrations and depressions to live and contribute for a better world. I have especially talked about seven critical factors which are making us distinct and successful in this 21st century. You have proved that they work.

How to conquer Future?

Just read the actual writings done last year by me in the book – “Unlearn Before U-learn”.

         Thinking of Development without YOU!
It is next to impossible to have a development where it does not take the shape of a Mass movement. Society can never get the pleasure of development unless all the people around are not developed. ……

Slums and flats side by side will remain dangerous for humanity. We must try to find a means to replace all slums with the flat system where all the occupants have all the necessary ingredients for a prospering and developing society like clean water, clear drainage system, electricity, medical facility, telephone network and coverage, cable TV or broadband connectivity, road, nearby bus and train terminals, good schools and park in the near vicinity, good shopping complexes, good security for individuals and property and so on. It is not very difficult. When a big corporative could be established for a large section of fragmented population, these basic amenities of life through proper housing could be provided to people.

The involvements of large number of people are necessary to achieve better results. The changes are very difficult to comprehend and implement. But it is mandatory to provide basic human rights to the people……..

These changes because of compulsions will enhance the standard of life. It should never happen to the people of this era of civilization that the energetic and dynamic person has to come back to slums and stop the development of individual and society. Similarly, the rich and educated have responsibility to maintain their standard life. They should not mix richness with cheapness….. and so on….(refer book.) These chapters can also be downloaded free of cost from http://groups.yahoo.com/group/iiuindia )

I wrote these lines in the year 2005. Today, Time magazine almost confirms these ideas. The magazine has put a mirror on the cover of its Person of the Year issue, released on Monday 18 Dec 2006, “because it literally reflects the idea that you, not us, are transforming the information age,” Editor Richard Stengel said in a statement.

I (or You) beat Tough Competitions

I beat out candidates, including Iran’s President Mahmoud Ahmadinejad, China’s President Hu Jintao, North Korean leaders Kim Jong-il and James Baker, the former US secretary of state who led Washington’s bipartisan Iraq Study Group. I am proud to be better than all of the above mentioned people. Because my concepts for a better and futuristic world is more precise and clear than all of the above mentioned people. You all have confirmed to me through your writings and comments. You have made me the Person of the Year.

Time has been naming its person of the year since 1927 and the tradition has become the source of speculation every year. Now only I came to know that earlier also once, I was declared Person of the Year in 1966 when Time declared this status to the 25-and under generation. I was just five and Person of the Year.

I am happy to make lot of American female friends on my Yahoo 360. Today, I am proud to say that most of them were also declared the Person of the Year earlier. As Time declared American Women as Person of the Year in 1975. Congratulations to all of you. You all have made me proud.

Dilemmas of Developing Nation

I wrote a book after leaving my regular job. I was looking for publishers. When I found it as tough job, I moved to some on-line systems like lulu.com and 360.yahoo.com and then I found the ways to express myself. Approximately, one year passed, I have been writing regularly for many sites without any remuneration. I have not got any financial assistance to do this job. But everyday, when one or other person was benefited of my writings, felt well. I felt the purpose to carry on. One side, I worked for my book publication while on the other I spread my knowledge. At the same time, I gained extensive knowledge. It helped me to create wisdom domain for me and many others.

“It is about the many wresting power from the few and helping one another for nothing and how that will not only change the world, but also change the way world changes,” said Grossman, Time’s technology writer and book critic. That is what I felt through out my last one year of blogging. Even if I did not get sufficient encouragement from different quarters, I remained firm. I was surprised with the conservative ideas of even big thinkers of the country like Jagmohan, Arun Shorie, Medha Patkar and Congress Managers. I confronted them and found them lacking. The nation faces the music. The deprived population faces worst results of the faults of their leaders. Life is a tragedy if we do not understand properly.

“The tool that makes this possible is the world wide web,” Grossman said. “It’s a tool for bringing together the small contributions of millions of people and making them matter.” The exploitation of the modern technology was started by me with my Electronics engineering degree in 1985. Just before that, Time had declared Computer as a Person of the Year in 1982. Accepting correct tool and medium can take you long way.

Changing Scenario

“These blogs and videos bring events to the rest of us in ways that are often more immediate and authentic than traditional media,” Stengel said. How correct these facts are? Especially for the developing countries like India, where all conventional media are governed and controlled by people whose thinking is of medieval era. Blogs provide us updated information. Blogs are the good source of wisdom domain. Conventional media or even TV continuously feed people with the conservative ideas. New medium is a boon for the people who want to grow. I always give emphasis on this aspect of human needs.

Presently, I am writing for various blogsites like Sulekha, Blogger (On Human Resources concept), the details are given in my signature space.
http://www.kamekish.sulekha.com and http://www.kamekish.blogspot.com or http://www.managementlogs.com/human_capital.html

I have written broadly on human growth. You can always find my management theories on the human_capital site of blogger. It is a great experience to get the exposure of the world even though you are surrounded by developing people who want to remain developing.

The way I have lived my life with the ideas and www, Time’s declaration has confirmed my resolve for the future. I have felt it so. I have written extensively on this. You all are futuristic who do not go conventional ways and opt for this futuristic means. You all are great who do not sleep in the night to communicate to the people across the globe. You share ideas and suggestions. You carry out your businesses and professions. You achieve pleasure. You share excitements. You share intimacy and make love. You share commitments. You learn and unlearn regularly.

I feel that I am the Person of the Year like all of you.
Enjoy Unlearning!

Reduce Stress Thru Unlearn

Note: The issues mentioned here can be used by one and all however is more so applicable for the employee and executives of Call centers, BPOs or other IT and ITES companies. Any specific question resolving complicated issues are always welcome.

Growth and Stress

The developments, which were witnessed in the Western countries, took more than 100 years to mature. The long period of 100 years provided enough time for individuals to unlearn and make changes. They remained comfortable unlearning and learning new things over a period of a few generations.
But the kind of development, Asian countries are witnessing or shortly will be witnessing in the Information Technology era is hardly giving time to individual in one life-time, forget about generations. Practically facing the situation is really mind-boggling. That is where, the importance of unlearning is vital not only for individual growth but for the growth of society, state, country and humanity.
The changes are not affecting million but billions (As per estimates of 2004, 1.1 billion people live in extreme poverty). The development estimated in next few years has potential to bring many towards a much comfortable financial situation. However, handling situation on personal and social level will throw a huge challenge to all of us. The new kind of stress related syndrome can be witnessed in the growing society.

Unlearning is key to Stress Management

The skill for unlearning has to be acquired, harnessed and innovated. The NGOs and other charitable organizations have to come forward to take up these Herculean tasks of eliminating social gaps. The human rights activists have to initiate their activities in these directions. Unlearning has to be converted into mass movements.

Areas where Unlearning mandatory

The following areas deserve mandatory appreciation and understanding.

1. Living Style – We have to forget to live a poor life. We can not hate rich. We have to create and cultivate habits of the rich. In every aspect of life we have to see how we can improve our lives. We have to work out the means and process by which we can be in a position to provide the basic amenities to every one. It is next to impossible to provide today’s basic necessities to slums or road-side houses. We must create societies to provide the basics amenities. And for this we will have to unlearn slums, road-side and other related living habits. We should never look towards SEZ or Singur as a threat. Rather, they are the options to unlearn.
2. Family structure – The family is a very important constituent of an individual life. The concept of joint family in today’s knowledge world is a curse. In a joint family, the biggest sufferer is the individual, especially the girl child or female who faces the brunt of the rotten system. She loses her identity. She is taught to sacrifice all her desires, ambitions and aspirations. In the old times, a joint family was support for individuals to grow, but today, the individual needs all sorts of different infrastructures to grow including good food, efficient institutions, reliable connectivity, time for creativity and so on. Individuals should have the privilege to live their own lives. We will have to unlearn many prevalent traditions and follow new rules.
3. Eating Habits - Good health is a very important aspect in life. Good health in the long run is achieved by good eating habits. These habits are not available ready made. One has to learn good eating tactics but before that bad eating habits and associated fears have to be unlearned. Eating habits should be created based on expert advices rather than trivial preachings. It should never depend on old traditions. Bad eating habits consume a lot of time. Without improving eating habits, it is not possible to keep healthy, it is not possible to have creative time, it is not possible to enjoy life, and it is not possible to become developed.
4. Global Language – Every educated individual and policy maker of the nation should think about the language issue. We should not keep the regional language for the poor and deprived people. We should provide equal opportunities to them to learn a global language. All government-run schools must teach English from primary school to bridge the gap between rich and poor. The government rather than talking about the first claim on resources, should provide equal opportunities to learn modern education and up to date wisdom. The poor should not feel it as their duty to force their children to study the regional language. We must learn and ensure that others learn the global language. Knowledge of the global language will pave the way for a very bright future of a developing nation.
5. Religious Faith – One recent study confirms that people are very religious in nature. But we need to understand religion for the benefit of human kind. Rather than generating blind faith, we must create a religious environment where people are respected and no discrimination exists in society. Religion should make us better individuals rather than crippled and burdened ones. We must restrict religious activities to generate a good life. We should never allow ourselves to think that God will do things for us. God is not going to help anyone unless a person tries to improve her own life. God has given us everything and we have to create our world with growing knowledge and sustained effort.
6. Understanding Self – It is very essential to understand oneself with all human frailties. A person knows herself best in this world. No other individual knows her better. She must take decisions in life according to her basic necessities. She has to make herself healthy, happy and knowledgeable to make this world a happier place. Without keeping yourself happy, you can never think of a happy world. We must unlearn other teachings to realize the importance of self. Self is essential and important. If you cannot understand and take care of yourself, you can never take care of anything else.
7. Education – Quality education broadens the views and vision of a person. It helps us to understand the world better. It promises to make life and this world a better and enjoyable place. One can have any amount of assets and resources but enjoyment and success come from balanced understanding. Understanding develops from good education. We must unlearn that education is necessary for a job only. Education is essential for a balanced happy life. Education should never mean that children are forced to study a particular book or epic. In that case, the purpose of education gets defeated. We must allow our children to get education on the subjects which open their thinking skills. Education must enhance constructive creative mentality. This will ensure the growth of humanity at large.
8. Entrepreneurship Skill – When we are entering the era of the developing domain, it is important to understand the needs of the time. We should never depend upon the government agencies to help us, but we must generate innovative ideas to create an environment where a large section of people get benefited along with self-development. In this Innovative Century, entrepreneurship skill with the right aptitude and correct unlearning skill can do wonders.
9. Working Culture – We must create a good work culture in our blood. We should forget and unlearn the old work ethics. Now as we are going to be a part of a developed world, we should feel proud and privileged in our work whatever and wherever we do it. We should create a work culture like China or Japan. People should not turn their faces on visitors during working.
10. Social obligations – We cannot be happy in isolation so we must try to fulfill our social obligations. We must take some time to think of our society’s development. We must see how people around us grow. We should try to create better and healthy surroundings. We should work hard to develop parks and other recreation centre in our neighbourhood.
11. Social Interaction – Technology is the biggest tool to interact with the world. We should be open enough in our thinking and action to exploit the privileges of this era. We must interact with all human beings on this earth. We must unlearn earlier interaction instincts, which were mainly based on caste, language, region or religion. Society has suffered heavily because of caste and religion-based interaction in the last century which should not be allowed to prevail in the new era.
12. Eradicating Discrimination – Social discrimination has been a critical and prominent part of the human civilization until just a century ago all across the world. However as society developing and education and prosperity increases, the discrimination between humans is vanishing. But, discrimination is still the biggest challenge to human civilization. It is like a cancer to humanity. We must make a policy so that all human beings are considered equal. There should be no need of reservations. Has America ever thought of reservations for the Blacks to eradicate the drawbacks of black society? Is China doing anything like this? Indian political bosses also should take a lesson and find some substitute for reservation for backward classes, scheduled castes, scheduled tribes, Muslims or even women. We must eradicate discrimination by removing reservation. Why educated doctors, engineers and other professionals have to face police atrocities to eradicate this discrimination in society? We should take other steps so that all humans treat other humans equal. Reservation remains a biggest source of discrimination.
13. Natures responsibilities – Once we are on the way to becoming developed it should be our responsibility to ensure that the atmosphere around us remains healthy not only for us but for future generations too. We should be ready to take hard decisions to make our air clean and healthy like Jagmohan took tough decisions as a Cabinet Minister and implemented CNG in Delhi. Supreme court moved polluting industries out of the city.
14. Global Thinking – We should not restrict our acquaintances with people of one country, rather we should move across the world. We should be ready to accept calibre from any part of the earth to improve life. We must unlearn the old missionary phobia. When Bill Gates of Microsoft Corporations can fight to remove ‘visa’ restrictions in the United States of America, there is no reason why we should not enhance the system and improve infrastructure to attract brilliant minds from across the world in various fields.
15. Global Family – We must consider the whole world as one family. We should cross the barrier of religion, region, caste or creed in relationships and marriages. Generally, we were content with meeting and marrying on the basis of caste, language or region. We should stop marriages based on caste or region. We must learn from Hema Malini and Amir Khan. The time has come when we should openly welcome and institutionalize the entry of people from across the world. We should stop asking people their caste and region to form an opinion or have a companion.
16. Democratic Behaviour – The time has come to accept basic democratic behaviour in our personality. It is next to impossible to have a prosperous world if society is built without the contribution or sense of involvement of each and every individual rich or poor, male or female, educated or illiterate, without caste barring, believers of any religion or faith, etc. Democracy cultivates a sense of involvement.

Many views with typical solutions appear in media to counter emerging stress in society, but in my view, the above mentioned points need specific attention from all the concerned people to combat stress threat.
Enjoy Unlearning!
